Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

I am on a 10mbps line with a 100GB softcap saw an advert in my monthly bill for 10mbps uncapped for the same price as my currently rate. Called to get more information was told by the call centre agent once you pass 150GB for the month you will be throttled.

Depends when you use last month i used a total of 500GB (not sure how much was night surfer and how much was normal time.)
I wasn't throttled.
currently looks like this:

anything happening on the Durban side of things?

getting mad ping spikes at random, started about 30minutes or so ago?

infrequent timeouts on 3 hop if that helps

Hi

Thanks mine also working now, was scratching my head for a long while:

Just 2 questions for a newby
:

1. What is the FUP on a 10mb line?

FUP1 starts at more than 800GB.

2. Since the first of this month my light turns red to show no internet then i just re start router and it works again...but tis happening more frequently these days about 5-6 tomes a day, what would cause this?

Only the internet light? Or does the modem lose sync?

Do the DSL stats on the modem show errors?

You should be able to see the reason reported by the ESR/BNG in the connections history on the customer portal. Disconnects requested by us (or you from the portal) will show up as 'Admin-Reset", but we would only disconnect for a cancellation or product upgrade/downgrade.

Isn't this due to being put onto FUP 1 when they implemented the new system...
Yes, user who incorrectly had FUP1 applied on 1 Dec (for 2 hours) got 6 extra priority passes.

Besides the removal of the FUP restrictions, the priority pass removes p2p shaping (while FUP wouldn't have been applied).

For example, if you were in FUP1 and used the priority pass at 18h30, you would have 30 minutes if no p2p shaping, and then 30 minutes of normal uncapped experience, and then 90 minutes of FUP1 enforcement.

We don't know how useful this will be (as p2p seems to be quite good most of the time), but we wanted to give a benefit to customers who don't get in to FUP.

FUP1 starts at more than 800GB.

Hmm, I shouldn't have answered this one without checking, the values MickZA quoted me on are correct.

Official communication is in the pipeline, but may not be out until January with a lot of the approvers on leave or almost on leave.

Aw so much important information , so what's does the FUP1 starts at for 4mb and 2mb account users ?
Also would like to know this, the bar on the portal looks like it's 1/4 used at 87GB this month, does FUP start when it's full or half way or what?

Ahh :( got me happy there -worked out to just shy of R1 per GB there.

Speaking off anyone knows what happens to the R799 10Mb uncapped in March?

Hi ranger

Thanks for FUP

The internet stops working, the internet light( earth ball) on router, goes red.....i then switch the router of and on again...the whole process happens, the DSL green light comes on then the green internet light..all working fine

But then as soon as you start hitting the net with streaming or music videos via you tube for a while(30-40 min) it goes off again..and the above process needs to be repeated?

Its like its pulling the router dead...in newby terminology..?

Please check your line stats when this happens, for example you should be able to see the CRC error count, and check if it is increasing rapidly when this happens. The other line stats would also be useful, and it would be useful to check them when your line is working, and compare to when it has this problem.

But this is almost 100% a line problem, nothing we can do that you can't (log a fault).
