Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Give it a shot, by your stats you should be good, but I'm open to correction... it could also be a wonky modem if it's old...
 
Thanks, this is pretty new, I will give it a week and if I do not go insane during that period I will log a fault.

What is Telkoms relationship with ASSIA?



Yeah that is a terrible idea, 7 calls to Telkom and no one has mentioned this to me, also I wouldn't be calling if my internet was not dropping like a fly. I honestly do not see how making random changes is going to fix my problems.

Usually the changes are for the better,for example my 10mb went up to 12mb due to ASSIA over a 2 day period, if I'm correct it's a technical side component so the call centre doesn't really deal with it. If any thing try use the Online Chat function, ask them to put you on the exclusion list possibly to try to stay on 4mb

Thanks for your assistance, I will give it a week and see what happens. I am more concerned about the constant drop in the upstream speed as that is quite useful, but will see what happens.

My 10MB speed tests are normal but my downloads are like stuck on 175 KB/s... Wtf?!?!
 
Anyone else having trouble streaming from youtube right now? Past hour or so is around 15-10kb/s its unusable. Any ideas? Just me or others experiencing this too? Durban.

Me. Speed test is showing full speed but video streaming is SLOW. Not usable.
 
Anyone else seeing high latency? Saw high latency last night and again tonight. Tested with a spare ADSL account, and all is fine on the spare account.
 
Ok so not just me then, because I also had better internet after changing ISP to test hmmm. Why Telkom why? High latency too. In fact, that has been happening for weeks now. Streaming has been nearly impossible between 8:30 and 11pm or so. Then last night just got to a whole new low with it affecting youtube even more.

Don't know what they up to, hopefully it stops, soon.
 
All fine here in PE atm on capped, speedwise & Youtube 720HD.

If I remember I'll test again tonight after eight.
 
Thanks Mick, yeah all great at the moment, it just seems to be especially the evenings. Couple weeks back I thought it was just everyone cruising to SA's tv streaming sites DStv, Showtime or something but its a deliberate 20kb/s limit that is put on the accounts it appears. Fine when switched elsewhere so, would be nice for telkom to give a little break with whatever they doing :)
 
Seems fine in PE:

Torrents running to NAS with 500kB/s limit
Youtube streaming at 720HD (WILTY) to PC
Showmax streaming Elementary on android TV box (no capping setting)
Minor client traffic on two servers.

Switched to OpenWeb capped at 20:35 with a slight increase in speed.
 
Hey, guys, I want to signup for Telkom's 4MB uncapped promo this month.
Can anyone tell me about their thresholds before getting shaped?
How's the performance for average usage(occasional downloads, constant streaming of Youtube etc)?
and will I be able to download torrents from 12-7?

Tier 1: throttling starts once you reach around 300Gb
Starts at 7pm, you'll be throttled at half speed for 2 or 3 hours! I can't remember the exact time duration.

Tier 2: I think it's at 400Gb, same story as above but you'll be throttled at a much longer duration.

Tier 3: I can't remember the amount of data but you'll be throttled the entire day.

Midnight to seven in the morning, you can rape the network! it won't be added to your FUP.
So to summarize, You need to stay at around 300Gb-400GB to be on the safe side and DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE INTERNET DURING MIDNIGHT TO SEVEN :/

Streaming is flawless! You'll never have any issues , you'll see speeds upto 560 kilobytes per second if you line is excellent after a week or so.
Latency is an issue, but if you play games on local servers you won't be affects that much
P2p, if the conditions are perfect you'll get excellent speed during the day and during the night! On my 10mb line i see 1.2 Megabytes constantly.

Is Telkom ever going to fix this terrible ping? WTF!

I feel you pain. Been struggling for 2 weeks now. High ping or ping fluctuating from 200 - 1200 and sloooooow download speed.

Worst thing is, I logged 5 faults since then using their portal. But as soon as I log a fault, they just close it down.
