Hi Ranger

BBC iPlayer is hanging tonight when I use the TI auto assigned DNS servers:

primary DNS address 196.43.54.190
secondary DNS address 196.43.38.190

(my local IP address 105.225.12.208)

Switching to the SAIX manual DNS servers you recommended in post #4326 http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/369314-Telkom-Internet-Uncapped-User-Feedback?p=10994535&viewfull=1#post10994535 seems to have resolved this.

primary DNS address 196.43.46.190 (Cape Town as I'm in PE)
secondary DNS address 196.43.42.190

Tested the auto TI DNS again this morning and experienced problems with UK news sites.

Back on rangers recommended IPs - problem solved.

Done over 100GB on my 1Mb/s line so far and I'm still in the green!

Looks like the new changes to the throttling threholds are working in your favour bud.

Did you change your download habits at all?

Anyone here on a 4MB line with 2MB uncapped?

Im seriously considering dropping my uncapped to 2MB. At night my 4MB runs at sub 1MB and I'm wasting money paying for 4MB when I cant even get close to that speed at night. And from what I gather its going to be a long time till my exchange probably gets upgraded.
My exchange isn't even ADSL2+ yet and only suppports a max of 4MB #sigh

I used to before TI dropped the price of 2Mb uncapped back in March(?) and gave us 4Mb for the old 2Mb price :)

The only problem I can foresee other than speed is the GBs you can move before throttling kicks in (seems to be +/- 240GB from previous comments in the thread).

Yes. Previously I would download at any time of the day at full speed, now I do most of it overnight and throttle my torrents to a lower speed during the day.

Working out really well this way so adapting your habits pays off.

I'm on 195gb on a 2mb line.
Not even close to half-way yet.

I only download after 10-11pm but stream after 4 generally.

:D

Im not a heavy user, when on 2MB I hardly went over 150GB.

How was your download speed and speedtest results?
I'm off tomorrow so I wanna get this sorted before the wkend.

Currently I only ge 4MB speed between 11 at night till 2pm the next day. So I figure that an average of 2MB might be the sweet spot as when I was on Ti 2MB uncapped I got a constant 1.7MB on speedtest all day and night.

This new system of theirs works really well, very impressed.

Thanks for the confirmations guys. Ti is looking better and better ech day.

If only Telkom would join the Ti party and fix our congested exchanges I'd be one happy camper!

As I have a 6Mb line I used TI capped during business hours prior to March and only used 2Mb uncapped after hours as it was too slow for my business purposes.

Since February though TI have put a lot of work into their uncapped QoS and now it would be hard differentiate between my 6Mb capped and 4Mb uncapped performance (I'm only keeping my TI 20GB capped as backup ATM).

As you'll get close to true 2Mbps speeds on a 4Mb line with 2Mb uncapped it sounds as though you wouldn't see much difference in performance given your current congestion problems if you do downgrade - you can but try :)
