Anybody experiencing problems while browsing with sites/pages that just hang?

For the past week I've been getting this and it happens on and off. When I click a link all I get is the spinning little icon in the page tab but nothing loads. In most cases this will go on for minutes where I can stop the page from loading and refresh it and get the same result.

At other times these same sights open within the blink of an eye without any problems. As said, it happens on and off and at random times. Any idea what may be the cause of this as its is very frustrating at times when I need to get some information from a certain site and it just hangs and hangs.

Even myBB did it at a stage but I have noticed that it is mostly international sites where the problems occur.

bad DNS routing...Telkom's automatically assigned DNSs like deciding that this or that part of the web simply doesn't exist one hour and then loading it perfectly the next

I wish they would do something about it as its a real pain in the backside at times.

@Ranger or anyone else that is in the knowing.

My P2P downloads are normally scheduled between 00:00 - 06:00 during the week.
What about weekends though? Is it free reign during weekends or are the preferred hours of P2P downloads still late night/early morning hours?

Can I clarify your question in that you are asking: if you download 24/7 over the weekend, will it negatively impact your status bar, or does it fall under 12-6am section?

I can say with absolute certainty that with IS, even though the whole time you have unshaped bliss, come monday, you have dropped a few stars, and you really feel it.

So, my advice is, play it safe and keep your heavy data transfers to between 12-6am.

I have not noticed any form of shaping or throttling of normal traffic on TI during the day.
P2p is a different story.

Even if you download 24/7 it does not effect your daily speed from what I have seen.

I have on a few occasions let the download run for extended periods across a week.
This month I have downloaded on average 10gb a day.
No slow down was experienced.
Wknds I can get close to 17gb a day and never notice a decrease in speed come Monday.

Hi Electric

Just to clarify? What line speed are we talking about?

Also, which I'm sure what is on everyone's mind, how does your status bar progress (keep it simple and compare GB's for the month) when you 24/7 it as opposed to scheduling overnight?

Hypothetical example (4mb line):

Month 1 (24/7 downloading):
Red status approx 300gigs?

Month 2 (overnight downloading):
Still in green at 300gigs?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting Telkom Internet Uncapped but I've heard that guys often have trouble with corrupt and slow downloads when downloading games from the PSN store. Are there any PS3 gamers on here that have uncapped TI that can confirm or deny this?

Many thanks :)

I'm on a 2mb uncapped.
Take into account I don't often download 24/7, very rarely in fact.
Last week was just a test to see what would have happened.

August (sometimes 24/7 but generally after 10:00pm)
240gb in green just above 50%

September (24/7)
94gb in green 25%

So as you can see, the bar has gone up slightly faster but nothing to be concerned about.

Ti is different to IS, having used an IS reseller and felt the effects of the star rating, I can without a doubt say that Ti does not penalise you for downloading during business hours. I have had my TiTracker in the Red Zone and still my Torrents ran at full tilt. On IS if you drop to 3-4 stars you will start to see some serious shaping on your account.

In fact the new incentives are more for those on a lower uncapped (1MB) that get throttled at a paltry 120GB. If they schedule their bulk downloads for after 12 then they will find that they can pull down more than 120GB and not be throttled. Obviously the same applies to the other speeds as well. Personally my average downloads are around 100GB (2MB uncapped) and throttling has never affected me.

I can Deny that, I am a ps3 gamer and download a few games a month from psn store

I agree with Vaaitjie.
I have 2 Playstations on my network and we don't have problems.
The only occasional issue is with GT5 and to download updates from the Gt5 server via pc.
There seems to be regular discrepancies in the checksum.

It is not limited to Telkom only though. We have tested and can't pin it to an ISP. Not sure if it is the GT5/PSN servers or what.
All other games update 100%, including GT5 on my line, when updated via the PS3 or even using a proxy.

It is not so much as 24/7, but I do schedule downloads in batches of 3 hours during the weekend, including during the day.
So basically 3 hours on and about 3 hours off.

I will then rather change the weekend schedule to 00:00 - 06:00.

Brilliant, thanks so much for the feedback!! TI it is then :D

I am aware that TI are the best ISP around when it comes to day time performance (except P2P), and IS should tread carefully (star system too harsh with weekend logging for example), it's just that I have more faith in IS (rock solid network which suit my needs when I'm at home) than TI and also can't get over the "dealing with the devil" feeling and signing up with them goes against my better moral judgement :)

EDIT: Classic example of "cutting of my nose to spite my face" position, but still.... :)

LOL I get where you coming from. My previous encounters with Telkom had also left a bad taste in my mouth. But Ti and Telkom are considered 2 different entities. We got to be careful not to confuse the two. While Ti is an awesome ISP, Telkom is still a shoddy infrastructure provider. My DSLAM isn't even on ADSL2+ yet, lets not even start on exchange congestion!

Sorry to correct you but P2P downloads run at full tilt for me during business hours, the only time my torrents are slow is when there are more leeches than seeders.
I'm sure many others on Ti will agree with me on this point.
