Hey all, can someone pls explain to me how does Telkom Uncap 4meg service handle torrents...? At best I get 25kbps , this is in the evening. I seldom do torrents, but most frustrating to see 1year 89days till download completes popping up the whole time. Any help will be much appreciated

It's entirely dependent on the number of seeds.
I can download a new torrent and get full line speeds.
But I am also downloading MasterChef Australia for a friend and it has taken 2 months to complete 29gb.
It still has 19hrs to go.
It has 0.100 seeds.

As already mentioned, if there are few seeders...

But it's perfect if you have a good torrent. Which has nothing to do with Telkom.

Seems that TI have de-prioritized torrents in the evenings but performance between 23:00 thru 17:00 is great see graph below:

TI Uncapped.jpg

... obviously I don't torrent all the time but generally do the UK/AUS/NZ soaps just after 08:00 and the serious stuff starts running from 18:00, you'll see the speed only peaks around midnight.

Having 100+ seeds is good but not if there's 200 leechers.

Downloading Under The Dome E13 right now, seed ratio is 1.855 and I'm pretty much maxing out my line... (2MB)

Danx Ti :D

Someone please help. For the past 2 months my line has been going crazy. I'm on 4 meg uncapped and this is what I'm currently getting on a speed test to my local server in Cape Town.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2975167494
do a traceroute to Cape Town

1. Click on Start
2. Type CMD in the search/run box
3. Type tracert capetown.spdtst.saix.net and press Enter
4.Copy the results and paste the results here and the wise people will give you feed back.

Just ensure that no other internet activity is on going, ie downloads, games, etc. This would include other pc's, devices on your network.

It will help if you can do the test several times a day.
From about 17:00 - 22:00 most exchanges are very busy.

This is how the results would look like.

Do you have a wireless connection to the router?

If not then you have severe congestion to your exchange OR your Telkom cable is faulty.

Anyone having torrent issues?

Slow to non-existent here. Thought it might be my download machine or torrent client but the same goes for my desktop. Tried torrents with very high seeder to leecher ratios.
Checked my router all is good, speedtest and other downloads run at near line speed.

Edit: No I'm not throttled.

Any ideas?

When I did the trace route there was no other internet activity taking place and it was done from the PC that was connected to the router with a lan cable.

Probably exchange congestion, PM ranger or telkomza.

Dont even bother with a PM. No-one can get telkom their speed up the process to alleviate congested exchanges.
I even got hold of a manager at my exchange and hecannot give me a date when my exchange will be upgraded, all they say is they are aware of the problem. FFS my exchange isn't even ADSL2+ plus yet!

Hey guys im new on this forum and i was wondering if anyone else was lagging for the past few days? when im on teamspeak with my friends im getting about 300ms of ping?? and i cannot understand why. Telkom doesnt normally give me problems but for the past few days its been unbearable. Ive tried phoning telkom to give me a port reset and it worked for a minutes and the latency shot through the roof again. My ping on WoW is about 300 ms aswell when i normally get 202 :( could someone kindly help me please. Im desperate to getting it to work properly again. And switching ISP is a no go. Thank you for the help guys much appreciated.

100% correct. Right now they will not deviate from their planned rollout of MSANs. Existing network will not be upgraded unless there is a compelling business reason.
