Hi Guys,

I've been having really bad international pings since Monday (Local pings are normal 20-30ms). I use to get 200-220ms, I now get 400+ms and ping times are completely erratic spiking to over 700ms. This is to all the European and North American servers I randomly select on Speedtest and Pingtest.

Line speed seem normalish, maybe a little slower. I called the technical office last night and they reset the port and whatever else, but found no problems on my line, this process had no noticeable effect. I then connected with my Openweb *spit* account and the pings are back to normal.

Anyone else having a similar issue where TI has very poor international pings? Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Mick, if and when you speak to the Techies again, won't you please ask if there are any plans to upgrade Kirkwood to 10Mbps?
I'm guessing you'll get more accurate info from Charl Olivier (TelkomZA) than local techies gossip :)

Best PM him and see if he has any info on plans for your area.

Can you paste a traceroute please?

The release of iOS7 has had some impact, but most of the traffic is local (so international shouldn't be worse-off).

I'm in PE and have switched to using DNS 196.43.46.190/196.43.42.190 as recommended by Ranger after experiencing problems with TI's auto DNS, why not try these and if things improve PM ranger for something more suitable for Pretoria.

I'm now getting sub 200ms to the UK:

Code:
[mick@mick1 ~]$ ping -qc 10 bbc.co.uk
PING bbc.co.uk (212.58.251.195) 56(84) bytes of data.

Thanks Mick that looks much better, the speed test result (I don't understand trace routes...), I'll try to load up a game (a lil later) and see how it behaves

Pings to UK is higher than it was before (a month or 2 ago, I was getting about 160ms where I now get 190ms) this is to the official UK CS go servers:

Thats almost a 40 ms ping difference!
Compare hop 7 on telkom and afrihost :(
Ranger, the afrihost and telkom pings were near identical just a few months ago, what has happened?

What will this mean as far as the insane throttling that they've been hitting all uncapped customers with?
 Haven't seen much bitching about TI uncapped throttling recently or are you wanting to know how it will impact MWeb clients?

Resell DSL...isn't that just the business accounts? so no effect/change on regular residential users?

My TI disconnects continuesly.... The callcentre allredy recreated the port. But it still disconnects. And now, it,s been disconnected for the last 15min...

What would you guys suggest...

Send a PM to Telkom_za They should be able to help.

Ranger: I see you will be doing a phased approach to increasing the DSL speeds. I propose Pretoria is moved to the top of the schedule ;)
