Telkom 4mb Uncapped

It's working for me, hope it stays like this

What?!? That's shocking. Should easily be able to pull 15 over night

I should've mentioned that the torrent wasn't very well seeded. Will try a better one tonight and see.

Something is seriously wrong at Telkom.
Im on a 2Meg uncapped account, and since the 2 of February my torrents are not downloading after hours they begin at a whopping 0.8kB/s.
Today it has gone back to normal.

Hmm, I don't understand. Are you saying something *is* wrong? Or *was* wrong?

We are troubleshooting some problems regarding bittorrent for 'shaped' (consumer) accounts. We don't have a fix yet, but we aim to fix it by this evening.

As far as we can tell, there shouldn't be any problems with web browsing and video streaming (although we have got one report about slow youtube that we are investigating).

Until 17h00, please let me know if there are problems with anything besides p2p, and preferably provide details.

And we now have confirmation that this is resolved.

We can't access Call of duty servers from Kirkwood and Uitenhage (close to PE) via Playstation 3.

Line seems better today. Youtube doenst play anything on 720p, struggles even on 480p.
4meg line.
Speedtest shows remarkable results. So whats up?

Can someone please share Telkoms or saix news server. news.saix.net gives me a whooping 0 kb/sec 24/7 :D

Its so nice to have a Telkom rep onboard;)

Yeah its still P2P activity thats not downloading, but thanks for you reply, i read your response to that.

Everything is fine on my side, just p2p giving problems.

Did a whopping 600mb in the last 24 hours

Downloaded some stuff today via http. Downloaded a wopping 17GB during the day alone. Gaming seems flawless. Usenet pretty decent. Not sure about p2p cause I don't use that much. Telkom is oficially my new favourite uncapped ISP

Edit: Yup torrents don't even work. Tracks don't connect. "connection closed by remote peer" It does not even connect at ALL. Not even the DHT network

So, we couldn't get our change approved for 17h00 (just wasn't time). We are implementing now. Will provide feedback when done.

Actually, in our testing, only contacting trackers was the problem. If we connected with an unshaped, we could contact trackers, and if we reconnected, the torrents worked adequately. But, we will try and have this fixed by tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the others. BTW., what games "worked flawless"?

Hmm, when I got home, I switched to my personal 2Mbps Telkom Uncapped, and put some 720p youtube on for the kids. The first time it was pulled from Youtube international, and it had to buffer a bit (was getting around 700-800kbps). When it finished, they (well, my 4yr-old) started it again (seems to have figured out XBMC to some extent), and then it was coming from the local Youtube servers, and played immediately without buffering.

Can someone please share Telkoms or saix news server. news.saix.net gives me a whooping 0 kb/sec 24/7 :D

We planned for our own NNTP proxy/cache, but haven't had time to put it in (a few of our team were off sick), but arranged up front to continue using news.saix.net. It shouldn't have been too bad today (was prioritised over P2P).

As soon as we have our NNTP, I will provide details here (would probably be nntp.telkomsa.net, and will initially be fast only for North and East region)

Ranger can you please tell me why Black Ops/Black OpsII servers have not been running for the last two days? This always seems to be a problem with TELKOM. I use MWEB bandwidth and I have absolutely no problem connecting! You should head over to dO gaming Forums and check out the posts there as well. I'm sorry but over and above issues I've had since Friday with the new dO broadband + 10 meg package I changed to I have a feeling I might just be forced to go back to MWEB. I've always been a strong advocate for using TELKOM as an ISP and have done so since ADSL BETA Testing started, but I feel the call centers are left in the dark in regards to what is "ACTUALLY" happening and end up feeding customers generic scripted answers whenever the SHTF. Customers are left to their own devices thinking it's a router settings with endless computer restarts and God knows what else. It's not right!
The BlackOps..... and I'm assuming COD issue is nothing new. It has been a problem since the old days of peering which I thought was over.

Same with COD: MW3 on PS3.
I'm aware of 2 guys in Kirkwood and 1 in Uitenhage (close to PE) that haven't been able to connect to the online servers the last 2 days.
We are able to connect using other ISP.

Other South Africans were connected as well, but not sure about the ISP's.

Please do tell me kind sir how to proof to you that the news server is doing a whooping 0kb/sec on my side.
Also, my youtube is not playing 720p at all, and it buffers on 480p every 5 seconds, even now at this time of the hour. Pathetic.
Http downloads go max 220kb/sec. Clearly something is buggered.
When on Afrihost, I get full speeds, so it is not my line.

@ ranger. The service I had previously (Before the Feb 1 change over) was much better than the one that we have now. It seems as if we are now shaped to death. I thought we were suppost to have a faster service from Feb but it seems the opposite is true? Its extreemly frustrating downloading an 8 Gb file at speeds of 10-20 k/s. I also find that it often drops and I have to start from scratch. Is it not possible to revert back to the decent service we once knew pre Feb 1 ?

Hmm, we can't easily test Cape Town and surrounds, but from the stats it should be ok ....

PM me your username.

Please provide details (URL and traceroute). PM me your username and I can possibly do a bit more investigation.

We can't change back to the previous network (it wasn't sustainable), but we are aiming to meet or exceed the average quality of experience.

But, cutting hundreds of thousand of users over in a matter of days isn't easy, and we need details to be able to fix things.

If you compare where we are now compared to Sunday and Monday, I am sure you will agree things are *much* better. But, at this point, we don't have conclusive information on anything that is not working well (having just fixed peer-to-peer for most regions, busy fixing for the Western Cape now).

We will not be focusing on specific applications, such as gaming (which we couldn't afford time for until now).
