Isnt it like Netflix where it detects line speed and adjusts quality according to that, if my line is running correctly then Youtube goes to 720p. This month with Telkom problems its been going to 144/240p most of the time though.

That's how it's meant to work, I'd think, yes. What happened though, was it was buffering @ 144p and when I set it higher, it loaded fast. No idea why.

So is this all due to the line speed upgrades? IPC just can't handle it?

What increase? What's it meant to fix? First I'm hearing of it.

I think it's time for a new ISP. I'm done with this.

Anyone noticed how they keep moving the goal post, pathetic.

The manager I spoke to some time back also told me mid February at the earliest.

I'm starting to think that they waited for the reduction in IPC cost which is happening 1st February.

So which one is it, because in that last news article Telkom stated they have plenty IPC capacity. Now they are getting more come mid Feb, its just lies on top of lies on top of lies, cant wait to be rid of them.

It's typical ISP behaviour when it comes to capacity issues. First denial, then silence, then lying, then some more silence, then a long wait followed by a miraculous improvement.

Even Afrihost denied that they had capacity issues in what I call the "horrible outage of October 2013".

Not really, when i was with Afrihost and Plugg they were always open about issues and when new capacity was expected etc. If Telkom were open i wouldn't be cancelling, im not unreasonable and would give Telkom until end of Feb or whenever if they were open about it. Im guessing someone at the top who doesn't have two brain cells to rub together has instructed employees to keep quiet about the issue. I cant be associated with a company like that.

I remember when they moved to MTN they were very open about capacity issues, cant talk about October though as i wasn't a customer then.

Yeah it was pretty bad in October - they were asked straight-out many times whether it's a capacity issue or not, and they denied it every time. Few weeks later it was "okay should be better soon, we ordered more capacity". Yeah... But having said that, after that dilemma they were pretty open & honest about what's happening.

Still, it was very disappointing as I was (well, still am) an AH customer and didn't expect the smoke and mirrors from them at the time. I just hope we never see a repeat of that. Especially because I need to decide tomorrow whether I'm going to cancel my TI account and resurrect my AH uncapped account.

I'm trying to download a couple of torrents which totals about 1gig. Problem is that I cannot download at more than 5kb per second. Even prayer fails to get it to go faster.

I reckon I will probably need to switch to a capped account to get some kind of life happening to get it downloaded.

Frustrating...

This, this, this.

IMHO, torrents are shaped to badly, here on NNTP I'm downloading a full speed however sometimes one just needs that occasional torrent for the older stuff.
