Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Thread is quiet today so I take it everyone's happy?

I'm extremely happy with performance but still feeling my way when it comes to just how much I can download. I don't think my downloading habits are excessive (only moderately high) but the usage tracker jumps up rather alarmingly whenever circumstances require me to get something during the day.

By the way, I got confirmation from TelkomZA that data of ANY kind counts towards your usage. So there's no difference between downloads from the SAIX usenet server and something overseas.

More like realised they do bugger all about complaints, or even requests to cancel.

I'm not sure if it'll come to this, but just in case, does anyone know of an ISP that offers very cheap 512k uncapped on a network with a news server? I figure downloading 24/7 on a slower connection with no fear of getting throttled will be better than 4-6 hours a day on a 2Mb line.

Also what is it actually like when you are throttled? Happened to me at the end of Jan but it coincided with all the horribleness so can't have been representative.

Best bet for downloading 24/7 is 1mbs Afrihost BUSINESS at R300

Oh, I should have specified that this would hypothetically be in addition to my Telkom uncapped account. Probably it'll turn out to be impractical and cheaper to just get a nice big all-purpose account, but I have to ask just in case. Uncapped accounts all seem to start around R200 for 1Mb though.

Mine is definately still farked, but I cancelled yesterday.
I'm still paying to the 3rd of March, so I'm still a TI customer. I'm not getting more than 2Mbps on my TI account.

I wonder whether this has anything to do with slow responses?

Experience today is however far worse than yesterday. Have multiple sites time out on me and or wait for ever for pages to load properly if ever.

Oddly, I don't have anything to download, so started a random newsgroup download, downloading 1050KB/s constantly for an hour.

Telkom really needs a lesson in customer service, if they offered a rebate during THEIR outage, and at least communicated to customers, they wouldn't have a hoard of people cancelling. I see people cancelling left right and center on facebook/twitter

Talking about the normal Telkom pages/account - Think on twitter its TelkomZA
That includes cancellations for things like lines being down and other non ISP reasons. If they had separate Telkom Internet social media accounts it would be so much better so this thread is probably the best indication of problems

you can read people's responses to see where the problems lie.

Telkom just got back to me on my logged fault. They recreated the port and what not. Now I'm really flying...

[spot the mountains of sarcasm]

Time to switch back to mobile, this is ridiculous.

I take this is not exchange congestion but a problem with the TI ISP account, meaning that if you use a trial account from another ISP your speeds are as they should be for 4Meg?

Apparently been like this for close on 2 weeks now. Not my line, at my mom's place. She's been complaining for the past two odd weeks that nothing wants to work. Came here yesterday to try and sort it out but it has just gone from bad to worse over the past two days so busy looking at getting her over onto mobile as well so that we can drop this line for once and for all.

Unfortunately do not have a trial account to test with.

Just did a test to local server

Download Speed: 149 kbps (18.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 34 kbps (4.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 2098 ms

Edit: Just a side note, this in on a 10Mbps TI package. Requested for it to be changed to 4Mbps as no upgrade can be done on local exchange and it only handles up to 4Mbps. See she's still being billed on latest bill for 10Mbps. Honestly had it with Telkom, even should they manage to pull a rabbit out of the hat on this one.

I doubt whether it would help since you seems to have a exchange congestion problem and not a TI Uncapped problem.

My neighbor solved his congestion problems by upgrading to a Business ADSL account with Telkom. Almost immediately he was back to full 4-meg speeds and when he downgraded 2 months later it remained as is to the day. Sure it cost him more for the 2 months he was on the package but it solved his general problem.

Latency still extremely high, since last night. It was fine the weekend! What's going on this time...?
