Im on 220gb on my 4mb and things seem fine. Not quite 100% but netflix still works, just takes a little longer to buffer. Daytime usage is fine i can work and ssh and listen to spotify. Still very pleased with TI

boom.

"The bandwidth consumption on your uncapped account has reached a stage whereby it is having a negative impact on the general performance of our network"

Seems that ~350Gb is the limit on 4Mb lines.

1Mb = 125Gb
2Mb = 250Gb
4Mb = 350Gb

So a 4Mb line can do around 1Tb a month of usage if you download 24x7 at max speed. That means that

1Mb = 125Gb is 50% of theoretical max of 250Gb a month
2Mb = 250Gb is 50% of theoretical max of 500Gb a month
4Mb = 350Gb is 35% of theoretical max of 1000Gb a month.

Telkom, I've been supporting your account for a very long time and I stayed with you when you first did the unannounced capping after the swop over. But I'm sorry, I will happily pay more for OpenWeb Gold now and support and recommend them.

I did 390 on 2 meg account so ???? maybe they changed terms yesterday :O

or NOT!
:mad:

According to SAIX I have done less than 200GB?

Your screenshot of tracker shows your status is yellow, not red. So, you are approaching having fair usage restrictions applied, but not there yet.

My speedtests have been stupid the whole week.

SAIX says I can dl at 54Mbps
Speedtest and Pingtest does not want to complete the tests

MY speedtest stand still for 20 seconds then zooms to whatever reading is given. The needle moves to fast to follow.
Not sure if the new policy has anything to do with it.

International.
Test conducted on 4/26/2013 12:53:15 AM

Download Speed: 2858 kbps (357.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 375 kbps (46.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 232 ms

Local:
Test conducted on 4/26/2013 12:58:03 AM

Download Speed: 3346 kbps (418.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 410 kbps (51.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 72 ms

Seems I'm loosing about 70 - 80KB/s on international due to shaping, unless something else is up.

I believe there is a failure on Eassy (I have received email notifications from SAIX that Durban->Amsterdam is down).

lol - I can't even log into the Telkom tracker... doesn't accept my username and password.

Go figure...

Now works for my uncapped account as well as capped accounts :)

TItracker.jpg

Looks like I've done about 50% of what's considered normal so far (230GB)?

A new version of tracker was just deployed. Some post-implementation testing is still being done, but it now works for me (where it didn't in the past), and uncapped users can now see an indication of their usage, and should see a warning before their service is degraded.

Thanks Ranger

That said I would love to know at what threshold would it turn red.... If anyone on this forum gets to the "red" threshold could you please post it on this forum, please indicate the account type and bandwidth consumption.

Now thats strange... dont you think?

What's more interesting are the extra comments on Romark's report re "adverse effect" and "continuous bulk downloads" which are absent from my report. As previously discussed it seems that TI are monitoring more than just pure gigs used.

I'm also in Orange.
The bandwidth consumption on your uncapped account has reached a stage whereby it is having a negative impact on the general performance of our network. In terms of the Telkom Internet Acceptable Use Policy, your account will be managed in a manner that allows us to optimise network efficiency for all users.

Your current internet usage pattern shows continuous bulk downloads over prolonged periods. This is in contravention of the Telkom Internet Acceptable Use Policy and as such your account will be managed in a manner that allows us to optimise network efficiency for all users.
Amusing that they've been happy with my usage pattern for well over a year.

No clue how much I've done, consider its meant to be uncapped, I don't keep track of it.

I don't get what is so difficult that they can't just release the figures, and say fair use is below x amount on y account.

The FUP states:

TelkomInternet Uncapped Fair Usage Policy

All TelkomInternet Uncapped accounts is shaped bandwidth based and provides unlimited data usage, however we do manage uncapped accounts on the performance of our network at any given time.
We monitor our overall network usage and if our data pool capacity is stretched we dynamically shape and throttle certain customer's uncapped accounts to relieve congestion. These uncapped customers will be chosen based on their usage trends. The uncapped users who have used the highest amount of data will be throttled first if there is network congestion and/or impairment.

It is our goal to ensure the best possible experience for both the high data usage and lower data usage customers given the parameters we have and as such we reserve the right to manage Uncapped ADSL accounts as we deem necessary to ensure optimal performance across our network for all of our customers.

Its meant to be dynamic based on network performance - so how then, at the end of the month, does a softcap get implemented, i.e. not dynamically, is the network only congested at this time? :rolleyes:

Agree, apart from total gigs consumed based on the current feedback I assume that continuous or 24/7 downloads has more of an impact in the way TI applies their shaping. Just a thought.

Hmm - I hope they do take in to consideration "real time" usage (i.e. streaming) vs. pure downloads - or at least in their shaping policy.

Shape my downloads, I dont mind, but my streaming services must still work.

So what you saying is shut down your pc more often and that will have a better result when TI applies there shaping. I agree!

I take it you have iptv service... netflix / hulu? How is that working out for you? is it better then Dstv or not?

guys on orange - noticed any change in your connection?

saix unreal.JPG

For some reason I get these absurd speeds on SAIX (not real life)
On MyBB and Speedtest the dials go faster than Superman to my juged speeds.

I'm definitely down on International, but nothing major, about 70KB/s on international.
I can't say if it is linked to my current orange status as I only became aware of this status late last night.
I think Ranger said that I'm not managed yet.

Edit:
Just saw the line quality.
I'm always "Grade A" on local and mostly "Grade B" on internationally, so not sure where the problem is atm.

Thanks ranger for the update, i do like that it gives an indication. Looks like i am in the RED :).

Ti RED Flagged 260413.jpg

Usage was 230GB iirc but previous months this year was lower though. 2MB Uncapped.
