Things are pretty dismal down South (Paarl).

Would everyone this side, kindly climb off the internet on this here long-weekend, so as to stop all the congestion?

Would it be worth a shout calling in and asking for a port-reset? I'm not entirely sure what that does - so not sure if it would help in anyway...??

At the risk of having a conversation with myself - resetting the port did the square root of nothing... On the phone with Telkom now - they're checking my line...

And - nothing... They rest the port again, still running under 1mb down... This sucks - big time. Only thing left is to send out an operator - subject to the possible call-out fee... And as Murphy will have it, by the time they show up here - everything will be working again. So guess I will just have to wait it out. Anyone else having fun and games at the moment?

Newcastle. 4meg uncapped. works beautifully. Last month got slowed to 1 meg speed after doing 475 GB.

SO every happy with the line. Had some DNS issues earlier this month however just switched to another DNS and switched back to Telkom today so no problems.

Very happy with service.

Youtube buffering flawlessly and 720p plays smooth and in advance of the buffer

I be jealous. I use so little data, I cannot even see the green bar yet over at the TI-Tracker, so doubt I'm being throttled! :)

Will have a go at changing my DNS numbers...

Haven't experienced any problems in a long time with TI. Have you tried testing with another account ? Maybe Afrihost free 1GB ? If your speed tests are normal, it will rule out throttling, on the other hand, if there's noise on your line, that will also contribute to poor performance, and will reflect on your speed test results as well. I had that a while back, and it turned out a cable was corroded. Telkom tech changed it at the box, and all was well.

Run a tracert to capetown.spdtst.saix.net to rule out congestion issues (if your 1-3rd hop is high it could be congestion otherwise it is likely something wrong with the account)

I popped this traceroute of mine, up on the Telkom area problems thread...:

I don't know enough about the above to figure out if it is exchange congestion - would appreciate your thoughts!

Hi, does anybody know how much data can be pulled on a 2Mbps account before throttling starts?

Where you based, Sneeky?

Never knew about the Afrihost option. Had a quick look - 1gb free/month? They don't mind people signing up *just* to be able to use it, for diagnostic purposes, in the event that their main ISP starts acting up? No catch??!

[EDIT]

Just applied, and activated with Afrihost. All in a matter of minutes - seriously impressed with their service, so far!

Ran the general Speedtest - all is how it used to be, averaging about 3,4mb down - which means it cannot be a line fault... So must simply be congestion? Or should I still log a fault with Telkom?

I don't know what happened - which in and of itself has me just a tad nervous - but now everything appears back to normal...

So a log-off Telkom, log-in to Afrihost - a few speedtests - and a log-in back to Telkom, appears to have done the trick?? Can that be - or is it just a complete coincidence?

On the 4MB and 10MB packages, aren't there certain times of the day that the service is throttled ? I stand corrected, but I'm sure I read something like that on here.

That might be? But then again - 1st time I've noticed it this bad over a weekend - I regularly check Speedtest...

A friend of mine is on the 4MB TI Uncapped package, and had speed issues as well. When he called in, he was told that there are in fact speed restrictions in effect. I'm on a 2MB Uncapped, and I've never had any issues with speeds. Line runs full speed at any time of the day I've used it. Granted, I'm not a heavy downloader, but I'm not really a light user either.
