Spoke too soon with regard to TELKOM. Internet speed sucks donkey balls since yesterday. Downloading torrents at +-10 kilobytes per second. i.e. 1/10th of the speed I'm supposed to get. :(

The usage report tool is no longer working correctly for me in the last two weeks, its reporting I have used 0% which is completely incorrect. Anyone having same issue?

I was having that problem. Clear cache. Should be fine.

Telkom seems poked again in Durban, getting 250kb/s on a 10Mb account. Afrihost maxing out the line.

Back to normal speeds (+-95kilobytes per second) this morning at 06:45 when I checked.

I just want to know, my Line stats on my modem seems to be abit IFFY... my downstream is 2048kbps... which is fine, but my upstream is only 90kbps... and it shows whenever I run a speedtest.... it never really used to bother me, its just now I wanna start uploading also, but with that speeds...

Yeah, experiencing a few issues here on Telkom Uncapped too. Http is slower than usual, some international sites almost timeout.

Ranger, while I appreciate the work you guys are doing, I'm not so sure the arrangement with the download window is a great one. I do audio post production work for a lot of international musicians, and I get sent audio stems in 24bit Aiff/WAV format almost every 2nd or 3rd day. These files range anywhere between 2GB to 15GB, depending on the project. You're now saying that I have to start scheduling my downloads for after midnight from now on ?

Where did I say 'have to'?

So, my work gets held up because my ISP dictates when I'm allowed to download ?

No, the initiative is to separate high-value and low-value traffic, to provide better throughput for high-value traffic. So, instead of having slow business downloads (in your case) due to other user's torrents, encouraging users to torrent during off-peak, so there is more capacity for stuff that can't really wait.

If that's the case, I will have to cancel my service with TI, because I can't work within a download timeframe that is dictated to me by my ISP.

We aren't dictating, we are incentivising.

If you are getting very close to hitting the fair usage threshold now, then you may be impacted. But, then you are (as far as I know) using a consumer product for a business purpose (deriving financial benefit from the use of your internet account), and one may argue that if you do hit the peak hour fair usage threshold, that that indicates your usage is not that of a consumer, and you should upgrade to either a faster account or a business package instead.

I don't think I'll ever get close to hitting the fair usage threshold. As far as using a consumer product for business purposes, what difference would a business package make during the part of the day you guys are "incentivising" people to download ? It's ok to use a consumer product for "illegal downloads" (because lets face it, whether people own up to it or not, that is what 90% of P2P dl's are and those don't seem to be impacted at all) but not ok for legitimate purposes, because I shouldn't be on a "consumer" product for the days I need to download stuff ? I don't need a business package, because I'm not using the service during business hours. I'm using it from my home, after hours. I use the service mostly as a consumer service, but every second day or so, I need to download a large chunk of data that I could do without any problems until a week ago. I also use VPN on occasion to connect to my office so I can work from home. By your reasoning, I would need a business account for this too, because I derive an income from my company for the use of my internet account. The bottom line is, the service worked well for me. You guys made changes. The service stopped working well.

I haven't had a problem over the past few days, but whether or not it stays that way, remains to be seen.

LOL @ ranger trying to "incentivise" use of the business product instead of the consumer product. If you buy a bakkie, you can use it as you want. Nobody has the right to "incentivise" what you can use it for, unless they contributing to the payments. :D

#BUMP.... Anybody....???

My line had a 19db downstream attenuation this morning, I asked Telkom to change my sync profile and now it's sitting at 50db with no internet working.
