Had some slow interwebs on Sunday but looks nack to normal today. Uitenhage 2Mbps

Awesome idea. Thanks

That was the point of my original question above and my statement regarding local news servers being shaped.
I'm on usenetbucket and get 100% line speed 24/7 as mentioned.

I think this the problem might be a KZN thing coz Ponder, Shanezn and myself seem to be struggling.

Only on downloads though, which is a little annoying, but all else seems fine on my side. You got the same ? Downloads only, or is your whole internet stuffed ?

When these speed upgrades come into effect, what would the process be for me to stay on 4mb uncapped but get the cost reduction due to the speed upgrade... I can't sync over 4mb so up to 10 mb is pointless for me.

Do I need to migrate to a 2mb account now? Will I need to give a months notice when "downgrading"?

Definitely a KZN problem as I'm experiencing the same issue. Torrents seem to have gone really slow after 12am.
Ranger, TelkomZa could you please provide some feedback with regards to this problem. Your'lls input will be highly appreciated.

Which news provider?
If on free local news then I can only assume it is the news account being shaped.

Can somebody maybe confirm this please @TelkomZA or @Ranger, is my News account being shaped? if so, then i think i should start considering a paid for News server, Tweaknews would definitely be the Ideal, and going back to torrents is not an option!

Why TweakNews over Usenetbucket that I posted?
Usenetbucket is cheaper.

For some reason, when i used Usenet Bucket some time ago, i had a good few downloads not completing, (Missing Blocks, Bad File etc) i was not happy with the trial for UseNet bucket, and i have never needed a block account as well, so i compared this with Tweaknews, and Tweaknews won hands down, I know Usenet is far cheaper, but at what cost? I never had any issues with TweakNews, and i just wasn't happy with Usenet.... Whats your experience been with Usenet so far? and which package are you on?

No issue at all with files downloading.
Works like a dream.

That's Super Cheap hey! I think maybe i should just give Usenet another go, in all fairness, when i was having that issues, i was also having issues with my line, so the 2 could've been related....

Are you using a Block account as well?

Not just KZN - I'm in Joburg and been having the same issues for over a week.
Port reset fixes it for an hour or two then slows down again.
Found that my line was syncing at only 900kbs.
I got Telkom ADSL (not TI) to send a technician out (get a CRK ref number logged - it's the only type where work gets done)
Line's syncing at 4096kb/s again but HTTP downloads still very erratic.
Haven't tried NNTP or torrents.

For me it only seems to be downloads specifically torrents and nntp. HTTP downloads are great as well as streaming youtube and xbmc.
I don't mind my torrents being shaped during business hours but to still be getting sub 30kB/s at 00:30 is just not on..

I remember Ranger mentioning something about changes to Gauteng which I think are affecting GP and KZN regions.

I'm not sure what it is with Telkom. I have posted before and don't even want to waste my time doing so again but it just gets so frustrating.

Line has been running just fine all week and since this morning its as near as dead as can be. I get around 250ms ping to local servers and my speed maxes out at around 1 to 1.5Mbps on a 4Meg line. Browser pages, like MyBB, just time out. My other software keeps on bi***hing about no server connection and keeps on disconnecting.

I guess from around 5 today I can again just flip the switch and rather go out for the evening as I know my line will be even less than useless until around midnight.

I said before that I will definitely signup with Telkom again once I move into my new property but I'm starting to have serious doubts about that. So tired of this love hate relationship we have going, maybe time to just pull the plug instead of ranting on a public forum.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1501 kbps (187.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 331 kbps (41.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

I think you right on that hey, if I recall ranger specifically mentions changes meant to happen Tuesday or something?
