We live on a farm, I had ADSL installed about a week ago. They even planted new telephone lines around the house, and I can say I am pretty happy with Telkom's service and haven't had any problems with my adsl so far. I am on the 1mbps uncapped package.

How often do you guys having issues reset your routers?

Often. Sometimes 3 to 4 times a day. My speed dips to almost nothing of late.

I have a 10M line uncapped. The speed is really erratic. NNTP works fine for the most part, but streaming....forget about it.

Yo! Telkom?

Last Result: (4mb account)
Download Speed: 375 kbps (46.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 95 kbps (11.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 1381 ms

This is after many router re-boots with a 3 minute waiting before switching on again. I have to re-boot every evening after 6 or the connection crawls. That usually fixes things. But not tonight.

Been battling like crazy the last few days in Paarl... Youtube etc flying - the rest, dead. 0.8mb down if I'm lucky... Mornings are cruising at 5.5mb - but very inconsistent... Will be patient - probably the upgrades etc., and I have very little to complain about, since if anything - it's always been very consistent... Here's hoping it doesn't go on like this for too long...

My modems reset every 30 or so minutes, I do not know why. But this is my stats:

Operational Mode G.Dmt.BisPlus
Annex Type AnnexA
Upstream 511800
Downstream 4091900
SNR Margin(Upstream) 35.0 dB
SNR Margin(Downstream) 28.95 dB
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 0.0 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 9.5 dB

Telkom claim there is nothing wrong with the line, and that there is no maintenance on the exchange.

BTW I have two modems and they both have the same symptom.

Ja look - switched to my Afrihost alternative - and things are flying.
So (not that this is news) - definitely TI that's in a world of hurt at the moment.

+1 Afrihost is flying here too. Definitely a Telkom thing.

Hi guys, just need a confirm on my stupid question....I recieved my Access username and password. I configured the modem to PPPoE etc used my given username password and it keeps on saying connecting. Tried the telkom guest account and it worked so the line is good. Now I didn't recieve a order number so I can't do the verification. Do I just phone telkom to get my order number? Or is this problem related to something else? Sorry for the dumbass question....1st time setting up adsl. The guy that installed the line said all I have to do is type in 10.0.0.0.2 (yes he said 3 zeros) in the webpage and insert my username and password then I will be active, now ofcourse that didn't work. I have a TP-Link router/modem that I use which IP address is 192.168.1.1, I think he ment that? I know a telkom modem is 10.0.0.2

Am I the only one who can't open TI's webpages? I wanted to check out their packages and only the home page will open for me, all others fail. Had the same problem yesterday.

Which pages?
The Telkom.co.za/ pages are all working for me.

Thanks for the reply RoMark, I can only open telkomsa.net but then when I click on any of the links to go to the DoBroadband websites they bomb out.

have you tried 10.0.0.2? and are you asking what account you use to sign in to your modem? Have you tried User: admin and password: admin

They work for me.
Might be your browser, firewall, proxy or programs like Peerblock.

4Mbps Kirkwood Eastern Cape.
For the first time in a while I checked speedtests and it seems I'm limited to 3Mbps on local and international?

Could someone check their speedtests in the Eastern Cape please?

Edit:
Checked with a capped backup account and the download speed is a bit better (about 300kbps). Upload is almost double the speed of my uncapped account and huge difference between international pings in favor of my backup account

Thanks RoMark, I'm currently in Botswana so that might be the problem. I'll give it a bash again when I'm back.

Did some testing last night as I wondered if they might have upgraded my current 6Mbps to 8Mbps ahead of the MSAN roll out - no such luck :(

Anyway I found I was getting bad speeds using rangers manual DNS recommendations, 196.43.46.190 & 196.43.42.190, so I switched to automatic DNS (196.43.54.190 & 196.43.38.190 are assigned) and speeds returned to normal. Speeds still good when I tested just now.
