You need them to sync your line I would send a tweet to TelkomZA - Give them your number and it is normally a matter of a few hours before they have you syncing at the right speed.Guys what does this mean? When I log into my router it says max rate 8000 and something kbs and current rate 1024kbs. I'm on a 2mb line that's supposed to be upgraded to 4mb. Does that mean I'm limited to this 1024kbs because my speed is crappy! Maximum download speed I ever got was about 110KB/s on direct downloads aswell as torrents.
Anyone notice bad streaming last night after 10?
I was streaming perfectly in HD.
Changed to another program last night at around 10 or so and it all went for a ball of ****.
On Hulu.
I am still happy with Telkom.
One night of minor issues is not enough for me to be concerned.
And as mentioned, it was probably 20 minutes of issues with a night of HD streaming.
Dear Electric
Welcome to the "there isn't enough bandwidth for fancy streaming on Telkom" club.
Your membership is free, and will continue indefinitely without you needing to auto-subscribe.
During this time, you may feel the need to obtain an Afrihost capped account.
This is, of course, purely an optional recommendation.
Should you enjoy stuttering, low resolution video streaming from non-supported protocols like the Devil, aka Hulu, then you will find comfort, warmth and companionship in this special TI club.
Wishing you a super stay.

Telkom thanks you for your continued support.
Due to your continued expression of happiness, we endeavour to return your streaming experience to normal tonight.
We will distribute all of the thewusman's international streaming bandwidth to your line due to his continued slamming of the performance our product.

Think you'll find international coverage of Mandela is going to redefine "peak time" for the next week on all ISPs.When is the Dota 2 ping going to be fixed?I am getting 600ms ping at 2pm (i.e non peak time for TI?)
Dec 16 industries shutdown - pron downloads clog the net for 3 weeksye, Mandela coverage will suffice as the excuse for this week.Whats telkoms excuse next week? hehe

What's going on with Telkom Internet??
My line was crawling last night and also this morning. Speeds are patethic to say the least. Web browsing was a nightmare ,took forever to open a web page. I did a tracert and there seems to be no congestion on the line, did a speedtest - D/L was 0.63MB and U/L 0.43MB on a 2Mb line.
According to them the figures/finances don't allow for proper Internet performance at the moment.![]()
Yes, shaping (note: all ISPs shape) is applied, for all the traffic (including international web traffic, ftp downloads etc.,).
At this stage, the product definition/financials don't allow us to change the prioritisation. The only thing to do here is to manage the demand, but again, users don't like that either.
Of course, the terminology used here is not well defined. All ISPs shape. How severe users experience the shaping to be depends on how much demand (depends on how many customers, their behaviour, how users are managed) there is compared to how much supply (effectively limited due to IPC and international bandwidth costs) there is.
Personal opinion: Uncapped in unsustainable in the short term. MWEB, the champion of uncapped, has even capitulated.
That sucks! Any indication as to when peformance would return to normal?
