Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Don't know what Telkom is up to, the possibilty that they don't know themselves has occured to me ... , but with Telkom one never knows ...

Since these problems with Telkom are mostly to do with the DNS not resolving to correct, or faulty, routes, you can try flushing your Windows resolver cache. I do this automatically with a simple batch script I wrote:
Code:
@echo off
color 0f
title Automatic DNS Flusher

:menu
echo = This is an automatic delay system for flushing your Windows DNS cache =
echo.
set /p delay=How long would you like the delay to be (minutes)?

if %delay% gtr 0 (
	set /a delay = %delay%*60
	set /a n=0
	goto dns) else (
	goto error
	)

:error
cls
echo ERROR: Time has to be more than 0
echo.
goto menu

cls
:dns
ipconfig/flushdns
set /a n=%n%+1
cls
echo Flushed %n% time(s)
ping localhost -n %delay% >nul
goto dns
Add that to notepad and save as dns.bat (make sure it isn't a .txt file!). Just keep it minimized in the background.

For those who don't understand what this is does and maybe don't trust it, all it does is create a timer to flush the DNS resolver cache in Windows every desired few minutes.

It seems to keep my internet more stable, and often fixes any latency issues and streaming problems.

Another fix I found for youtube is to add &egl=ZA to the end of any YouTube video address. That usually loads about 1.5x-2x as fast since it usually tries to use a Canadian CDN (Content Delivery Network) to stream videos to me.

Just keep in mind that any results from these may just be placebo effects.
Sorry for the long post -- you can't attach .bat files (or any executables) for obvious reasons.

YouTube sucks today....

I'm in Cape Town on 4mb uncapped account.

I think we should open a thread and ask MyBroadband to send someone to ask Telkom to explain wtf is going on, since we have had no feedback from anyone associated with Telkom.

My Connection just dropped, came back and i ran a speed test and got the below results...

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3337 kbps (417.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 535 kbps (66.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 66 ms
1/11/2014 11:51:31 PM

And then 2 minutes later:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1525 kbps (190.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 534 kbps (66.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 69 ms
1/11/2014 11:53:36 PM

Telkom is completely dead for me, cannot open any local or international sites. Cannot resolve host names. There is zero service right now.

Telkom, WTF is going on?

They have been working on it and there are some issues due to some transitions in their network which they can't change until the transition period is over.

So Telkom has a network freeze.
Telkom is not my ISP.
TI is my ISP. TI hasn't been providing a proper service for the last week, while just about every other ISP out there are delivering a proper service. Meanwhile most post that refers to fault reporting at the helpdesk Indicates that there are no problems according to helpdesk people, while we all know that Internarional is useless and local can be include at times as well.
In the meantime while everybody is enjoying the Telkom freez, I must pay for additional bandwidth on a backup account, because it takes 24 hours to download an 87MB Avast file with my TI account that is on a freez holiday.

Internet died around 10 minutes ago had to reset the modem. Cant play any game online unless i enjoy 800 ping, this is actually quite pathetic from Telkom.

This is really unfortunate. I switched over to TI from Afrihost (and before that MWeb) last year, and I've always been very happy with TI - up until now. What we're experiencing now is totally unacceptable. Can a Telkom rep (like ranger) just give us an update as to what the hell is happening...

What is probably happening is they have some needlessly convoluted setup they are playing silly buggers with in preparation for upgrading us poor souls who are on 1 mb lines to 2 mb lines ...

+1

I thought Telkom Internet had downgraded me to dial-up for the last couple of days, but this morning things seem much better, thank goodness. Hope it lasts...

I remember when got 8k with my dial-up and that was fast back then...

And it seems that something happened last night as my speed is back to acceptable levels again. It would be really nice if one could query a help site and get detailed status by exchange.
