I am having the same issue in Cape Town, will post speed tests tonight.

But latency to the Cape Town Telkom server on Speedtest.net where over 600ms and that is from Cape Town. Download speeds are terrible and gaming is not possible.

Logged a ticket with Telkom and got told it is an unknown fault, issue will be escalated and I can expect a phone call within 48 hours, well 48 hours later no phone call.

Leaving TI month end, what was I thinking. How could I even trust TI. Absolute joke. 240p struggling on YouTube. Enough said.

Okay, it has been coming on two weeks of slow internet, and now two days of NO internet. I've phoned the call centre 3 times in the past three days to get some clarity, nothing. Spoke with someone this morning and they told me they're sending a technician out today to come and check and I must be home for him to check the line. Uhm...ja...like the rest of South Africa, I have to work for a living...But anyway. Informed her that they have 24 hours to get me back online and give me a solid explanation as to why everyone's service has been so slow or I'm cancelling my account. Enough is enough now. I'm paying a hellova lot of money to fart around on dial-up speeds and sit without connection every couple of days.

Happy 7 day anniversary of k@k interweb to me!!! At least international seems so-so again :

rowboat

but it doesn't really matter that much since : paperplane

local latency is still broken here in CT.

One can always take an mweb 7day trial... Atleast you will be having better internet than Telkom for 7 days :P

Telkom would you please let us know what the hell is going on? Some feedback wrt to the cause of the issue and estimated resolution date would be appreciated.

Well, lucky you.
I'm hoping things will get back to normal. TI's been amazing before this crapstorm started.

Jip. Telkom worked great for me. Like I previously mentioned, I accept that **** happens, but I do not accept this silence from TI.
Tell me what the issue is, how you are going to resolve it and expected time frame for it to be fixed.

Well, I've managed to speak to a supervisor from TI and unfortunately the news is not good.

He all but admitted that it is a capacity issue made worse by the continued roll-out of higher speeds for everyone and continuous tinkering of DSLAM ports for customers who have been heavily affected by the upgrades (I was one of them btw). Tentative resolution date is mid February.

Also said that some ISP's have been flooding them with calls as well due to slow access.

Think it's time to hop over to Afrihost once again even if it means paying more by keeping my line with Telkom.

But if it's a capacity issue due to the line upgrades, then shouldn't all ISP's be affected?
(Also, if it is a capacity issue due to the upgrades, then what in the hell were they expecting.. do they EVER think ahead...)

I jumped ship this morning, cancelled my agreement with TI. Had to give 30 days’ notice, and pay another ISP for the rest of the months, which means double payment at the end of the day, but I could not take it anymore, I need to have my internet. Now I just have to decide where to go, Afrihost looks very promising at this point.

Is there a way to cancel online, or does one still have to travel 20 years into the past and call someone?

Not necessarily. Eg. Telkom has 100,000 subscribers as opposed to 20,000 for another ISP.

The issue is not that Telkom don't have the capacity, the issue is that the provisioned capacity hasn't been made available yet for some reason only they know about.

Oh, you mean TI's capacity, not Telkom Wholesale's capacity.

May I ask if this is your opinion or do you know this for a fact?

Good luck with that i've been on hold for the last hour and 13 minutes! Phone on speaker, crap music playing

The past is the only future for Telkom I am sorry to say, but it was very painless, I called at 08h00 on the dot got thru within a minute and 10 minutes later had a reference and it is was done. Just wish the support worked as well as the cancellation part.
