Jeez getting freaking awesome speeds in the morning even torrents are flying but why the hell in business hours? When I get home from work then it deteriorates. Wtf telkom, I was under the impression that off peak hours are the fastest for residential customers? Well atleast you did one thing right and sorted the speed out but the time's are off.

Four days and still no call from cancellation department.

3 days for me.
Apart of the initial call, I tried the TelkomZA twitter account yesterday and the escalation route via the Telkom website this morning.
Tomorrow, Hello Peter.

Tomorrow, Hello Peter.

I tried all of that.

TelkomZA twitter account wants me to provide tracert to saix to "proof" there is a problem. :wtf: I responded asking why multiple complaints, multiple attempts to contact them via various platforms, multiple users reporting them same problems, etc, since the 6th of Jan isn't proof there's a problem.

They ignored it, as expected. Playing ignorant as if nothing is wrong.

According to Telkom Call Centre, there is no issue...whatsoever....there was an incident of slow browsing in the last 24hrs, but that has been resolved....-me comparing... my Afrihost account performance to my Telkom one, was met with....I will reset your port....- so basically, the call centre does not know what is going on...-slowly but surely, I am getting ready to get penalised for ending my uncapped account with Telkom early, and moving to an ISP that can deliver...

Telkom is run by a bunch of incompetents and staffed by incompetents. The possibility of them rectifying the issues on their network after such a lengthy period of time, validates my statement.

I can stream on twitch.tv and supersport.com today and actually play counter strike go. I wonder if this will hold up for the entire day. It will probably go back to the usual when everyone gets home.

Same here, first fault logged and port was reset. Second and third faults were just closed without any contact being made and problems still persist.

Signed up on Simple Uncapped last night and seeing the exact same as mentioned. Torrents seem to be going at full speed now but were at 20kb/s last night.

Same here, but telkomza did ask me if the solution he proposed is working. I gave feedback last night. Must admit, he is trying to help me.
Also raised the issue on telkoms FB account, seems they're working togethr, or same person??
Must admit, at least im getting feedback.

Other ISPs encourage downloads overnight and give free bandwidth for those times. I don't even see how it's sustainable to give full P2P speeds during business hours.

Torrents on TI are generally sluggish from around 15:00 until 23:30. Reckon it ties in with the kids getting home from school and evening online TV viewing.

BTW a couple of people have suggested that business hours are TI's peak traffic time - wrong. Ranger has often stated that evenings are the heaviest.

This is completely opposite to what other ISP reps say. AfriMan always tells people to do torrents overnight when their P2P downloads are heavily shaped during the day.

Yeah, this happens when the engineers are "tweaking" the system and the daytime p2p shaping goes off. Enjoy while it lasts because it will switch on :D.

In retrospect, now a year later since they switched over to their NGN , things have improved. I must commend them for keeping things running even if there is upto 3 weeks of issues (possibly more). I cannot fathom the pressure to keep all the non business users happy must feel like :p.

Now, maybe someone can spill some beans about this Netflix-Telkom/Ti partnership & VOD services :D /slightly off topic ;-)

Ah, we have revived a version of "Telkom Mathematics" :). Peak, in Telkom's terms, means off-peak.

I'm beginning to see the problem ...

Economies of scale.

Think you'll find the other ISPs residential demographic is weighted in favour of heavy users (with the possible exception of MWeb) whereas TI has far more "Mom & Pop" users. These other ISPs prefer to keep their business clients happy hence the heavy residential shaping during business hours.
