Please guys, stay away from Telkom uncapped - its terrible.

(here's hoping everyone listens so my account stays working at line speed)

;) My Telkom 1MB uncapped is active as of yesterday and did some "testing" during business hours and I have to agree with you. This is the worst uncapped account I've had to date. Stay away people, stay far away. ;)

Mine is working quite well :) Have been getting very close to 100kb constantly....

No real complaints here ;) , kid is having a ball, :) , he's playing Team Fortress 2, the bugger is, now I have to tell him, it is time to stop and take a rest, instead of your bandwidth limit has been reached for the day. (usually 1 hour ) :D

I am sure pricing is somewhere on this forum, but forgive my lack reading. We just upgraded from a 384kps line to 1mb, and I am really enjoying the speeds. My cap is obviously getting finished much more quicker now.

We are paying for the line subscription ( 1mb) and a 8 gig cap. I am not to sure on the package, our ISp is telkom. Also have a email address ( [email protected]) that currently exsist's with Telkom.

My question, is there anything cheaper/better than what we are paying now ( somewhere greater than R400) ? Also, if you had to change the ISP from telkom to for example mweb, is there a way of retaining the the email address ?

1. Until DoC/ICASA deciides otherwise you will always pay for your phone line and the ADSL service.
2. Only Telkom provides ADSL at this stage.
3. Where you can reduce your cost is with your ISP. If you are getting capped on 8Gb every month, then mosey over to the MWeb, OpenWeb or Afrihost web sites and look at their offers. Or go for Telkom Uncapped.
4. Yes, there is a way to keep your email address. It will probably cost you around R20/m.

I appreciate the accurate reply.

Thanks man.

Does it not concern any of you that there are no telkom Internet reps on mybb? If you have issues with your account, who do you talk to? Do you call the call centre and wait a long time till you get to some useless bloke that can't help you?

I don't think I would ever use telkom uncapped until such time there is an appointed rep on these forums who will be willing to help.

Every other isp has a rep on these forums, it's just so convenient.

What are your thoughts on this?

Sent from my iPhone 4

But can you really blame them? Mybb is a website full of internet users who only come here to complain about Telkom. The rep would spend all his time dodging insults and being trolled by guys who's DSL lines are down (even though telkom internet has no control over the DSL lines).

BTW, my telkom 10mb uncapped account has never dipped below full speeds. Nice to have the peace of mind.

I am not a rep, but I am a techie working for Telkom supporting aspects of the TelkomInternet brand.

If you just want to talk, it sounds like you're one of the people who spends too long on the phone when calling our call centre ;-).

Seriously though, could you provide an example of the 'issues with your account'?

We have a number of initiatives on the way to try and ensure people get service with less effort on their part, and which one I tell you about depends on your answer.

So, you would prefer an ad-hoc person on the forum rather than:
-The ability to make changes to your services directly yourself
-The ability to log support requests by email, receiving a ticket number automatically and being informed when it is resolved in under 2 business days
?

Those are some of the projects currently taking up my time, and if I were to spend more time on the forums, it would probably delay projects like this.

So, it is not really my job to do individual support (though I am concerned about the number of customers who aren't served adequately), but I can ensure technical issues/problems affecting multiple users (e.g. a process that is not working, or a tool we provide doesn't work under certain circumstances, or doesn't have support info etc.).

Please note, I can't do anything about line-related issues, strictly telkomsa.net stuff (ADSL account, email, DNS and web hosting etc.). It took a few years of working for Telkom for me to get a phone line (6 months from my latest application to installation), and now my exchange doesn't have any available ADSL ports (which I couldn't find out before the line was installed).

At 11:50pm, 1mb Telkom Uncapped : myBB Speedtest.

South Africa - Ping 82ms, DL : 0.36mbps , UL : 0.41mbps

International - Ping 420ms, DL : 0.13mbps , UL : 0.35mbps

Is that not just terrible, and how long have i been waiting now for our exchange to be adsl enabled.

[got screenshot if you dont believe me.] I know this is a feedback thread, but if anyone can give me adivise on how to get this sorted, PLEASE HELP!!

Ofcourse i phoned telkom. They kept telling me to restart my modem, or its congestion. I phoned again today, and someone [smarter] told me, they could see there is a problem with my line and that a technician was assigned to fix it.

For those of you experiencing very slow speeds [and aren't being throttled], dont just leave it. Could be a problem with your line as well.
