Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

OMG 1MB speeds are depressing.... oh well... gotta get used to it. My usual one hour download is estimated at 6 hours :p

Anyone else having problems downloading from newsdemon? Even saix news server seems down...

Sorted....download was paused! facepalm!

Now you just making me feel sorry for myself, I've only ever had 384 line. :)
 
You can apply online aswell :)

telkomsa.net site > Our Products > Access Services > Uncapped Internet Services > Pricing tab > right down below Option 2.

**** it - been on hold now for 10min just to apply... you can see Telkom doesn't need new business if the sales line is this slow.

Any user on 4MB line using 1MB account :D...i read someone was but just wondering if November is the same :p
 
Does it not concern any of you that there are no telkom Internet reps on mybb? If you have issues with your account, who do you talk to? Do you call the call centre and wait a long time till you get to some useless bloke that can't help you?

I don't think I would ever use telkom uncapped until such time there is an appointed rep on these forums who will be willing to help.

Every other isp has a rep on these forums, it's just so convenient.

What are your thoughts on this?

I've logged two issues regarding speed on my previous ISP accounts, and Telkom pitched at my house both times without 24 hours to sort it out...

Am I disappointed that there is no Telkom Internet rep on MyBB? Yes.

But why on Earth should it concern me in my choice of ISP?

I waited until the last day before moving over to the uncapped account.

There is just too much that can go wrong.

You are given a new TI account name, so you will need to back up any email messages (if you use a telkomsa account).

My local Telkom Direct shop, far more effective than any ISP's call centre and I've dealt with most.
 
OK. wife called me now to tell me they're busy "installing" (God Telkom can be dramatic) our second line. I had the wife apply for another line since the other one is in my name and she's never had one in her name (so she's a new client, ok :D )

How would I get the router? Activation, how does that work?

Are you getting a free router/modem (as I think you are)?
They should leave you with all the username/password info.
It will also give you step-by-step instructions to activate the service.
 
Since any bandwidth using the IS backbone in my area is completely useless the majority of the time, I decided to order a 1Mbps account today.

After 20 minutes of holding for a consultant, I was told repeatedly (about 5 times over the course of a 6 minute call) that it is impossible to get a 1Mbps account without downgrading my line to 1Mbps, no matter how many times I explained that I do not want to downgrade my line and that I know of other people who have this service on faster lines.

After waiting to speak to a supervisor, I was told they are unavailable and will not phone me back under any circumstances, but that I should phone the new accounts department on 10219 and ask for one. This number says that it is deprecated and should not be used in future.

After 16 minutes of waiting for a consultant and another 5 minutes for them to speak to their supervisor, they were finally able to give me the account I asked for.

So far I have been getting the full 1Mbps download speed, with 512Kbps upload, but I will mention that from an initial download test using a download manager with multiple connections, their throttling appears to be a little odd... When downloading from SAIX FTP, the speed initially spikes high (over 200KB/s) and then spikes between 120KB/s and 140KB/s, sometimes higher, stopping completely for a up to a few seconds at a time.

So instead of throttling speeds to a constant ~100KB/s, they allow it to spike higher, but then throttle it to virtually 0 in between to compensate. I experience the same behaviour from another local FTP, just at a slightly lower speed.

Although I don't like the idea of inconsistent speed, an upside to this kinda of throttling would be that the first couple seconds of buffering things like youtube videos will be faster.
