...That's the first they normally do.

Wow... that double post was weird... think it got stuck somehow when I closed the lid on my laptop just after the first post :p

Hi,im trying to get my dad to change his 1Gb package to the 384 uncapped. What is the quickest and easiest way to do this? Is it possible to change online, or do you have to phone them? Thanks

Not to sure about changing it online, but if you change it now you'll pay double for this month. The cheapest route is to cancel on the last day of the month and sign up for the new one on the first.

You will still be charged double ... :(

At least I was ...

Me too... (for the previous month, past month... ) Joined on 3 November, charged full rate for October.

I had to make a not inconsiderable effort, to be at Telkom Direct on the 31st October, change my account to uncapped, and still got charged for October and November - cannot win when Telkom need money for Christmas bonus payments :(

So they charge u for the current month with the package u are on currently and what you are moving to? And is it active straight away or only the next month?

Available straight away, and yep, they make you bend over double ... , just my experience .... :(

There's a lot of confusion regarding this double billing issue on both Telkoms and the clients side.

The important thing to note is that Telkoms capped accounts are linked to the calendar month - they start on the 1st and end on the last day of the month (30th 31st, etc).

Uncapped accounts are linked to the "billing period" (see your detailed Telkom invoice), in my case the 27th thru the 26th of the next month. To avoid being "short-changed" on data or double billed I must activate uncapped accounts on the 27th of the month and cancel before the 26th.

Generally speaking you will always be double billed on the first invoice after activation of either account type as month one is billed in arrears and month two in advance.

The above information does not apply to the "free" uncapped promos except in as far as when you should cancel to avoid a unnecessary months billing.

Edit: as of Jan 2012 billing uncapped accounts are billed and run for the calender month same as capped.

Well besides the billing crap - my account is wonderful (for 1MB)... I can actually stream internet radio from my Squeezebox - and Youtube doesn't buffer..

I miss 4MB for downloading though... four times slower is taking some getting used to.

Problem seems to be with DNS servers and something else. Can't play SW:TOR today. :( But you should be able to browse most sites by using 8.8.8.8 as a primary.

Can someone post a copy of their Telkom bill showing the different costs,

I got a 4Mb line with the 9GB cap atm, I'm looking at going with the 1Mb/uncapped (since it seems the 4Mb/uncapped is not available at a residential rate yet) option on top of my current configuration, basically removing the 9Gb cap, I think.

Now bit confused though, if I have the 4Mb line (as a 4Mb download speed), but get a 1Mb/uncapped, how when does this work, I thought my line speed is 4Mb, what does the 1Mb/uncapped actually imply.

What should I be paying, will try and pop into a Telkom office tomorrow.

Anyone have this in the Brackenhurst/Meyersdal area?

G

Yes, see my posts in this thread. My 1Mb uncapped ran at full speed until last week when Telkom finally figured out how to throttle it down to 1.05Mb on the MyBB speedtest. The daytime additional throttling is not happening ATM.

I got my monthly billing last night and there were no nasty surprises - R369 as stated on their pricelist.

Important: using MY billing cycle dates above (check your account for your dates):

You must start UNcapped accounts on the 27th and cancel before the 26th to avoid oddball billing.

Damm, my entire message disappeared...

ok lets try again:

Trying to figure out how my 4Mb line (9GB cap) + 5GB (cap) + line rental ends being R842/m.

going to pop into Telkom shop today.

I expect a Line rental + R413 (Fastest DSL 4096) + New 1Mb or 4Mb uncap package at ????

Can someone still explain to me, if I have a 4Mb line, implying speed of downloads, how does the 1Mb/uncapped work on op of this, what should I expect?

G
