Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Forgot I was meant to research 4Meg line uncapped for my friend.
He currently has 4meg line, with 1000 anytime free mins (landline calls)
He wants to go uncapped on the DSL with telkom, as he prefers having the 1000mins of landline calls for he's kids that'll otherwise race up the phone bill.

Any idea of product that would suit him?

Currently he's paying R900 for the 1000mins, 4Mbps ADSL and 16GB TI cap.

From what I've been finding - TI 4Mbps Uncapped is like nearly R3k?!?! :sick: :eek:

What about adding a 1Mbps Uncapped account for R369 to what he already has?
Can that be done?

AFAIK there is not a residential 4Mbps Uncapped product yet... that premium product looks like a business offering.
 
So i wait 3 weeks to get telkom guy to come over, he comes over and he tells me that the owners of the building have a telkom box in the building but do not allow lines to be installed on their walls. does anyone know where i can find a cable channel installer around Pretoria Hatfield?
 
Finally got uncapped today after holding for an hour 15mins this morning and giving up then an hour this afternoon finally got through. Definately throttled to 20kb/s, whats the bloody point of throttling a 384 line, like we 384 users are using SOOO much bandwidth. It's bloody painfull browsing like this.

There's a general fault that's causing slower international speeds...
 
Ahh good to know thanks, just assumed i was throttled reading someone else from durban saying they were throttled to 20kb/s.
 
Is there anyone without internet this morning? tells me trouble connecting to DNS serveer
 
I am having problems using the news server, can someone please tell me what to do.....do i have to install a separate programm to have access.
 
What do you mean you're having a problem? How are you trying to use news servers now?
 
Just a small update, on the Ti 3 month trial.

Performance on websites for streaming the cricket (audio), youtube HD..basically everything except online gaming which i have not tested has been superb. Heard there was some issues on international connectivity as per frontpage but i have not felt it at all :D.

I hope Ti reduce pricing or atleast give us a 4MB consumer product. 1MB admittingly is slow (120KB/s) in comparison to 4MB which we had before BUT overall there isn't a difference in browsing and only downloads for the most part were felt (simultaneous connections made).

Despite Ti's faults here and there, their network can handle data, there is no doubt about this.

Looks like we gonna stick with the uncapped after the promo :).

Oh and the shaping they mentioned has not been seen at all "touch wood" which makes this feel like the only true uncapped product out there. Dare i say it unshaped :O...

Back to the interwebs now :)

I can second that. the only problem is the price of the 4mb line, other than that its been perfect. also, i havent seen any shaping and if grav80 is right(1mb changes to 2mb), that wont be a problem anymore. :)
 
generally the account is not bad, downloads are pretty good.

Games, most nights i sit at around 400ms in LoL, local BF3 seems alright but international gaming is killing me, not sure if its the ISP or my line but tried a saix capped account and made no difference so still cant really say yet. What i have noticed is a friend also on the uncapped promotion, when playing LoL together, his latency and my latency are always just about the same while we are both in completely different area's so my thoughts is it most probably is the ISP.
 
I've come to the conclusion im shaped or throttled to hell from 7am - 10pm,i dont get anything over 15kb/s during the day. Local is fine and all my other accounts are fine. Thanks telkom

That could be congestion at your exchange level and not the ISP throttling you (Telkom don't shape).

I'm still happier than a pig in ****.
 
How do i find out which exchange im on and whether it's congested? Ranger made me ping a few sites but there's no real difference during the day or early morning.
