Hi.

This month I upgraded to 10mbit with 16GB international and 30GB local for around R700 per month total cost.

I queued up around 15GB of local downloads just after I reached my 16GB international cap. Problem is the next day once everything was downloaded on the telkom internet tracker it showed 31/16GB international used and 0/30GB local used. Thought it might just be a bug but today get an email saying my balance is currently R1200...

Any ideas?

You get 16gb a month, but recently they introduced something that allows you to exceed your cap (you can set the limit). You're going to have to pay for the extra gigs.

Unless that feature is opt-in, I can't remember now.

i am not so sure about that.. I know there is cap management that you can set it to cap you on local once you excede your local only allocation but them not capping your "capped" account and charging you is BS..

You are only charged for exceeded your local bandwidth allocation. You will never and can never be charged for exceeding your international bandwidth.

Correct. Extra charges could be ADSL "tax" adjustment for the higher rate. Log a billing dispute with 10210 and let them tell you why.

If you go to the usage report it says in red that you will only be charged for exceeding local. Your blended is capped when you reach your limit. Supposed to be anyways.

So if you get a capped account with Telkom and exceed the cap they still allow you to use your account but just automatically charge you for it?

I cannot see how they could legally do this?

I can understand if you go into your account and put an automatic top up on your account if you want too, but in my opinion it should be default as not allow to top up

logged a dispute on eservices.. lets see what happens.
