Shame. I hate to disappoint you guys, but I had a chat with my Telkom ADSL insider on Thursday. These 8Mbps stories are all rumours. The infrastructure can barely handle the 4Mbps load, so 8Mbps is a pipe dream.

Then in effect you're telling me that the guy I know who does Telkom's ADSL, who happens to be a friend of mine, is lying.
Anyway, I hope the 8Mbps rumours becomes a reality, but I highly doubt it.

I don't know but something is definitely going on. I don't know about the 8mb line as they may not happen now but maybe the guys on slower lines can see some increase in speed on their side at least

Why must they upgrade your DSLAM? It is already ADSL 2+ capable. That's not where the problem lies...

Exactly, our lines are stuck in the 70's, pumping proper ADSL down it is overkill.

They told me that it needed to be upgraded there, but that they were not planning on doing it. When I asked if they had any idea when it will ever happen, they said no.
I assumed that it therefore is the DSLAM. Where else could the problem be?

mmmm maybe some areas infrastructures cant handle it. just like some areas cant get the up to 4mbps lines. if some people already got the 8mbps, even just for a day, then it should be possible.

I had to downgrade to 3Mbps.
If they offer a 8Mbps service they're going to have to advertise it as a 1Mbps up to 8Mbps.
