I remember there was a thread about upgrading your ADSL line from 384K to 4M in a matter of hours, well I get told 7 days to process the upgrade. How long does it take Telkom? I mean really, I have been waiting 3 days already…. Never mind I have been charged already for the 4096 line. Damn Telkom are pathetic at times and excellent at times.. Oh well until we have real competition I guess this is what we will have to put up with. Everyone will move once LLU has been put into action and large companies like Vodacom & MTN start investing in their own exchanges.

yeah the 5 times i've had to change a lines speed it was done before i put the phone down each time, most of the time u can once u put fone down, just reboot your router and voila. almost like switching Mnet/dstv on and off @ multichoice....

Mine was also instant! didnt even have to reboot the router.. got home and saw it was fast :)

I enquired yesterday twice, enquired three times today. Then i phoned back and argued my heart out… With no joy. I was told that my maximum line speed it 390k. Because of my distance. So I hung up releasing I was getting nowhere. Phoned back again and would you believe I got a very accommodating lady. She put me on hold and said that she could not understand what her co workers were going on about. When she came back she said, She is going to remove my adsl profile and recreate it. 10mins later she apologized for taking so long as the technical team have put a block on the account. And while I was on the phone I saw my sync speed change, and got the all done from her.

It shows you have some just pass the buck! Either there uneducated or lazy…. And you get some that are so pleasant and helpful. She really went out of her way to correct this problem and I take my hat off to her!!!

Always request them to perform a sync test. When they tell you that you can only get a certain speed, they are reading donkey bawlz old info from their system. A sync test done while you're on the phone will tell you what your line is capable of. I was told that I could only get 512kbps. That was until I got a techy on the phone to do a sync test on my line. Imagine my surprise when I found out that I can get 4Mbps :)

This is unfortunately one of the problems with Telkom. You speak to a different person every time and each one gives you their own version of things. Persistence is the key with them. Keep phoning until you get the 'right' person and then your issue gets resolved 'like magic'.
