The Telegram Conundrum

Recently I lost a prepaid number that was attached to my business. I never used this number to dial out, only ever used it with WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc. It depended. I did regularly 'recharge' the account, so I was a bit surprised when the line got suspended. I did do recharging and did use SIM data, so they nailed my line on not having a chargeable call? At the store, they told me you have to make a call within 90 days. So, yeah, I am not happy. Even under these circumstances, going through the support you can't get your old number back. It gets quarantined in which it is untouchable according to them, and then promptly recycled. The guy at the store also told me that it is the quickest he has ever seen a number recycled.

So this was a challenge. I was able to get most things registered to a new number. Except Telegram. Now, I still have access to my account, but I can't change its number. The new number is already in use, and it can only be authenticated via the Telegram app. This is absolute kak.

I can already see scammers and other malcious people getting as many numbers as possible to sign up Telegram accounts and then trash the number.

It has been more than a week, and it is impossible to get Telegram to support you. They don't do SMS activations anymore, unless the number is new on their system. Terrible.

I went on social media and other discussion boards, and this seems to be the most complained about issue. This whole thing is plagued with suspicious people willing to 'help' you out.

Anyone here knows how to swindle their system into sending you an SMS? Some said, some countries allow it and you have to set up a Telegram proxy, but I tried and it didn't work. Apparently trying too many times can also get activation blocked on new devices.

PS. Anyone here with an MTN prepaid account should activate the extender service. Odd how this isn't a standard, and not clearly communicated.
I would like to know on what network that number was.

Did the official Telegram support reply to you?

No.

What platform did they respond on

Not via Telegram (volunteers), not via email, not via X. They don't respond at all.

I previously sought advice elsewhere, received some methods, and it didn't work. I was asked to try again, and it worked. An unusual coincidence, but I am not complaining.

For those having issues, some assistance might be contained herein:

However, that wasn't my solution. My numbers were in use on Telegram, all you have to do is add them as contacts and you will know. I tried to register two numbers that were registered, and somehow neither was attached to any account anymore. The mind boggles. Though I did open multiple support tickets with Telegram because you have to send them the numbers and the carriers it is attached to.

For notice. I tried the suggested proxies, and it didn't work. Tried VPNs via multiple locations, and it didn't work. Tried Telegram X (beta) and it didn't work. All I can think is that the two numbers got terminated, or released, on their end, and I had to use the latest Telegram X beta branch, and it all worked.

I still find this thread rather confusing, how did you manage to get your new number registered to Telegram whereas previously you couldn't and why is there now two numbers involved and not just the new number you were having issues with?
And how much did it cost to do via the dark web :whistling:

Good question. I am only happy that it is solved. This is not some unique experience I had. Many, and many potential and current users are complaining about it. Now I get it, Telegram is very vulnerable to exploitation, and most actions similar to mine would be deemed suspicious. Their support, however, is nowhere, or clandestine.

Nothing.

I guess opening threads here does help... who knows. I dunno.

Still not happy that I lost my old number though. As they told me, they have never seen a number recycled that quickly. Though when I call it, the number is never available. Odd. Maybe some call centre grabbed it, but weird that it happened in a time when MTN was supposedly breached.

Anyhow, my case is closed and I can move on without worry.

How did you accomplish getting the Telegram account for your new number?
Did you try again and randomly they sent the verification sms this time?

How did you accomplish getting the Telegram account for your new number?

Simple answer, the numbers weren't registered to a Telegram account anymore. Banned numbers and numbers already registered cannot be registered to a new account. Unless you own the number in use, which will receive a code on its account. You can check whether a number is already registered by attempting to add it as a contact.

You can send an email to Telegram with your new number and carrier. They, however, don't respond to those emails, as I have experienced. I have sent them multiple emails.

I am starting to sound like a broken clock.

Did you try again and randomly they sent the verification sms this time?

Yes, but not random. Enough piquing your curiosity.

Why all the cloak and daggers, how did you convince Telegram to send the verification SMS when they wouldn't before?

There is no cloak and daggers. I told you as it is, and you persist. No, I didn't convince Telegram to do anything, they haven't responded to me at all. Broken record? Did they act on an email I have sent them, maybe, but I won't know.

Go to Reddit, there are multiple, and I mean MULTIPLE threads about the exact same issue I have experienced. It is very public.

Oh for fsks just say you can't say what happened, I'm assuming you had to do something a little suspect to get it done and you aren't comfortable sharing it, I understand.
But anyway glad you got it sorted in the end.

Oh for fsks just say you can't say what happened,

I have thoroughly, throughout this thread, explained my issue. Also how it eventually got remedied.

Mind you, I was asking on Reddit how I could be assisted. Everyone gave the same solution, until I was asked to check again, and it worked. The only new thing was an updated Telegram X (beta) via the Google Play Store. No dark web, no secrets, nor sorcery (maybe, I dunno). Could Telegram have decided to read my email yesterday, and did some background assistance, maybe, again I dunno. Hence my cheeky remark that they read these threads.

You know how many times I have tried, with two numbers? Two accounts out there received more than 100 code prompts, each.

I'm assuming you had to do something a little suspect to get it done and you aren't comfortable sharing it, I understand.

No skeletons here.

But anyway glad you got it sorted in the end.

Thanks.

What the kak is this now. Telegram forcing signup which you then have to cancel again.
