What do you mean?

A 384kbps line typically maxes out at 40-42kBps (or 320kbps)...the rest is usually written off to TCP overhead.

Whew! Best I have seen on mine is 39.4kbps over a period of time.

Wouldn't mind seeing these speeds. And wouldn't mind seeing some sort of doubling up in October ...

Its impossible to get those speeds on a 384 line. Or even 68kb per second on a 512 line. Theoretically a 384 and 512 line are limited to 48 and 64kb per sec respectively. Have you checked your router to see what speed your syncing at? Im still at 384 unfortunately

I did get that speed while I was downloading a file from the BrotherSoft servers.

Router still says 384 unfortunately.

I highly doubt that this speed increase is going to happen in October...if it was going to happen then we would surely have gotten some communication from Telkom about this. Why would they not want to publicise a good thing?

Dont get me wrong, i would gladly welcome a jump to 8mb but who are your sources??

I reached 47k download on a 384k line, during the ZAPortal days.

My DSLAM is not getting upgraded. I therefore must live with it, until another service provider comes along.

Telkom wants to now go hang with their nigerian bra's. They seem to have a lot in common.

Telkom stole SA taxpayer money, to build themselves, which they then used to steal more money from the SA public, which they will now use, to enrich themselves and their nigerian bra's, at the expense of the SA citizens.

So perfect. C'mon telkom, tell us some more about how you investing, in arguably one of the most scummy, corrupt countries in the world, is helping the SA citizens afford to climb out of poverty and despair, living on DRUGS from nigerians, or whoring for nigerians.

The pathetic nigerians are complaining so nicely, now that they are promoted as aliens that eat humans.

This is exactly my question.

It appears that they are hoping that their "little" gamble will one day break even or, miracles above, become cash positive. I cannot see this ever happening. It was a poor decision and they should do the right thing and acknowledge their error before they bankrupt Telkom.

If I were to become the CEO or Chairman of the Telkom Board my first decision would be to cut my losses in Nigeria and focus on my South African business.

That might portray that it is a nice place to do business, but it is not. Teledensity means nothing when the country is in recession. The projected ARPU and the actual ARPU is the measure of any telco investment in Nigeria, not the number of subscribers. They are giving away network-locked handsets to increase their prepaid subscriber base!!!

It's time to man up and walk away from Nigeria. Spend the money generated from profits in South Africa on upgrading our South African networks and service offerings.
