Telkom Line Speed doubling?

we could always start taking side bets on the date of implementation :)

side bet of 100000000 ZIM DOLLA telkom start on the 15th of Oct.

I heard that even though the capability is there to 4 x the current speed telkom is not going to do it just yet in fact they are looking at a stage by stage implementation over the next 3 years to maximize revenues.

so we might see 4mb lines upgraded to 5 or 6mb lines in the next 6 months
but wouldn't count on a double in line speed just yet

Wouldn't Telkom make more cash by giving me a faster line speed? Surely surfing at 8mbps I'll download more data than I will at 4mpbs, meaning increased revenues for Telkom.

This is Telkom, and this is South Africa. Trust me, anything in this place is too good to be true..

Yeah, look... if it wasn't for momentum, the continent Africa won't turn with the rest of the world... it'll just stay in one place and only move when kicked hard!

I have noticed they are stepping up their NGN ad campaigns. The ads say that the NGN will be launched soon, and that speeds will improve. So they have to launch 8Mbps or they would have lied on radio and TV.

I'm holding thumbs that we all get bumped up to a higher speed. Lets just hope they don't charge R1000+ for the 8Mbps line rental

Don't they do their price changes etc, effective from August every year.
Still a while to go till then...

Like I said in the other thread, the official word is that it will now happen in March 2010.

It will begin as a trial in Gauteng and then roll out to the rest of the country.

There may be some exchanges which will be bumped up before then, but they are supposed to notify you that you are part of a trial.

It was supposed to be now... October, but it has been delayed due to problems.

doesn't have anything to do with the rollout of new products or system upgrades. Those can happen at any time of the year. Telkom releases new packages and products throughout the year.

one would thinkt hat hellkom would let us clients knwo this, as a sort of "thank you for putting up with our lousy service, so here we give u a free upgrade on X date to 1mb /4mb/ 8mb.. " i for one would be very happy with a message from them
