Hi everyone, so perhaps someone can provide some insight into my problem and advise.

Recently I cancelled my 4MB ADSL uncapped bundle with MWEB to transfer to Vox. My line has since transferred back to Telkom. When Vox attempted the migration, Telkom cancelled their request. Now I'm told that due to new policy, any transfers will experience between 10-30 days downtime if I want to migrate from Telkom to another ISP.

1. What are my options from migrating away from Telkom?
2. Is it even worth moving the line away from Telkom to another ISP -does it affect speeds, reliability, etc? Or is having your line with another ISP simply for the benefit of having decent support?

Thank you :)

My Personal experience... Telkom has always offered the best support with line issues. I transferred my line BACK to them after struggling to get stuff done at the ISP's with the lines. Stuff that took weeks was done immediately when the line was back at Telkom. The only benefit I see is a small financial one, but that saving is definitely not worth all the effort.

Thanks Werfie. The financial saving is a couple rand... at most. I'm thinking it's probably best just to leave it at Telkom.

You actually wouldn't have saved anything to have your line with Vox, Telkom price is R299 and Vox price is R299. It is highly advised to keep your line with Telkom anyway, that way if you want to switch ISP you no longer have any hassle to go through.

Vox was offering about 5% discount on moving the line to them but looks like more effort than it's worth. So I have the Uncapped Bolt-on with them which is working great and everything else with Telkom. Thanks for the feedback guys :)

This also of course, try being fed up with your ISP and then having 20 day downtime just to go to a different ISP. Nope, leave the line with Telkom, where it is mean to be.

Yip. Leaving the line with Telkom is the best option, you can change ISPs as often as you want.

Had my line with an ISP before and it's a hassle. When comes time to sorting issues out Telkom is just more efficient than dealing with an ISP, many ISPs often blame Telkom for their own issues and it's out of your hands. Migrating a line can also be a nightmare if one looks at all the posts here relating to that exercise.

Skud, unfortunately the ISP needs to follow the new policy: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/...line-transfer-policy-will-cause-downtime.html
Your line speed is mostly determined by Telkom as they own the xDSL last mile, the ISP is only managing the line on your behalf. The ISP can reset ports if need be and log faults with Telkom.
Vox Telecom can ensure a single point of contact for both your line and data. We can offer 3G/APN services while you wait for the migration. Regards Voxy
