Telkom line upgrade, help.

We've been trying to get Telkom to upgrade our 384k line to 4096k.

Could someone that's done this or knows the process please basically spell it out for me?

We phoned them and did everything Joseph wanted, requested the upgrade and were told it would take up to 72 hours and were told by Joseph he would call back (sure), when none of this happened we called again and it turns out absolutely nothing has happened...

It seems like the only way would be to actually tell these idiots working there what we want done and how they should do it (their job).

Lol... I tried phoning them this morning to do it and nobody answered the phone after about 5 minutes of being on hold. will try again on Monday

I think you just spoke to the wrong person.

It's just a matter of phoning 10219 and asking them to upgrade your line to 4096Kb/s. They will then ask you for your ID to identify you. Once this is done they will activate the line and it should be up within 24 hours. However, when I did it, mine was up after 5 mins. It really doesn't take that long. Also, the agent I spoke to gave me a job number that i could reference if I had any queries. I also received an sms to say that my line was upgraded the next morning.

Thanks KaMoS. That's the number we've been calling. Called them again and this time got through to someone with at least half a brain. She said there's been no requests to have the line upgraded, wonderful.

The first time we phoned, the person that answered I have a feeling had escaped from an asylum, the second wasn't much better and emailed us a lot of pages to sign and send back after asking to "upgrade our line from 384k to 4meg".

I almost find it hard to believe how stupid these people have been, they must be putting me on because anyone that stupid couldn't have survived puberty? lol

We have a business line and I phoned 10217 yesterday to have the line upgraded. This morning it is running at 4mbps!

Our line is still not upgraded (today is the 9th day). I have a long list of phone numbers for Telkom, because when I phone to ask what's going on they say I should call X number for help, and X tells me to call Y and Y tells me to call Z and Z tell me etc,,,,it actually got so bad I was literally put in a circle of phone numbers with each telling my to call the next until I'm back at the first number.

I've had numerous promises that I would be called back, which obviously never happen because they're all a bunch of damned liars.

On top of all that we're also corresponding via email with another person there also trying to get the line upgraded.

Still waiting...

hi Browser I am sorry that you are still waiting for the upgrade. I guess we were just fortunate when we made the call in getting them to do the upgrade. Holding thumbs that your upgrade will be done soon.

phoning this morning, after you have specified your phone number and then choosing the last option, the line just disconnects and you get an engaged tone.

anybody else tried phoning the 10219 number today? tried more than 3 times already, same outcome every single time

is there perhaps another number i can try that could just "transfer" me?

I applied to get my 512 line upgraded to 4mb on friday, and still nothing Oo they said 24 to 48 hours.. at the same time as doing this i applied to get my cap increased, which the guy i was speaking to did straight away, and gave me the new username and password over the phone.. still waiting though.. will phone them at 9

Thread is 2 years old so I doubt if people still read it - unless it is necro'd like this one.

NO - not any time soon unless they are forced to do so by the DoC or ICASA, which won't happen as they have a universal broadband target to have 384 rolled out to all by 2019.
