Netflix streaming in 4k with either 8Mb or 10Mb line... see attached, note NOT playing of lit box

We do not watch sport in our household, I only watch esports what apps do you guys use to watch sport, I would use it when friends and family want to watch the game.

Sometimes.. U just have to believe what other people say when they have a 4k tv and stream netflix.. And yes with netflix streaming technology 8Mb will get u 4k.. Remember they not using the standard compression algorithms..

As a matter of fact.. Netflix is investing $1 billion to research better algorithms for streaming.. Hopefully they can offer higher quality at lower bit rates
Very interesting

At the moment this lit box is a piece of crap.. its in need of major software upgrade.. The Xiaomi mi box works well cos its based on android 6 which is really optimized. Android 7.1.2 needs alot bug fixing.. To get this box to perform properly needs alot of tinkering and when spending R1100 u really want it to work.. The interface just freezes sometimes and you constantly must restart the device to get it to work. Rather get the mi box from gearbest for around the same price

Else wait for the product to be updated!!!

You are welcome to your opinion. If you are not happy with this box , feel free to post elsewhere on matters that interest you

I actually agree with red hot neo.

It's definitely a work in progress box, that has a lot of bugs.

Surely that must be the utter baseline of 4K then where it actually looks worse than 1080p at top speed?

I mean after all Netflix says 7GB per hour for UHD.

that 1.9 MB/sec which converts to a 20Mbps line.

At 8Mbps you are getting 700 kB/sec which makes for 2,5GB per hour.

The 1080P file sizes are hitting a maximum 3GB so you aren’t even getting there, so how would you get the baseline 4K of you aren’t even maxing out 1080p?

So I’m going with what the stats are saying isn’t actually what you are getting.

At 20Mbps VDSL speed with nothing else using the line you could achieve the 7GB hourly rate.

Netflix probably add some padding with their 25Mbps figure for other simultaneous utilisation.

No you don’t sometimes have to believe what some people say.

Their streaming technology brings the massive 4K files down to a 7GB per hour rate. That is already with their compression algorithms at full tilt over anything else.

Do you honestly think they can double even that compression? It’s simply not possible in the here and now.

What’s being reported in your stats and what’s actually coming out on the TV aren’t necessarily the same thing.

There are many many gradients to their algorithms and you are seemingly triggering the very bottom end one and probably at a loss for quality over just sticking the top end version of 1080p.

But if it works for you and you believe it to be up to UHD scratch then my opinion is irrelevant anyway.

NetFlix can use what ever encoding they wish, if you do not have the equivalent decoder your side, you are not going to benefit from their advanced decoder. You will fall back to the encoding/decoding setup that both sides can support.

I may be wrong but is the audio not the largest part of the file. So 4k with stereo or mono might actually be possible with 8 mb line ?

Lol.

No the audio is the very smallest part of the file.

There is much much less information in there.

Think about it, a lossless audio CD is 700 MB of data.

One difference though is that the audio doesn’t scale. It’s always the same quality.

Audio is part of the video, and yes, lowering the audio quality, can give you a reduction in bandwidth requirements. But audio is the lesser part of the video. Awesome video quality, that has lost most of the effects due to MP3 audio is not AWESOME.

It is a better compromise to drop video rate and audio each down a notch, than to go all out for just the audio.

Stereo can alone at CD quality provide very good sound. At around 700 mega bytes an hour.

Erm...you have Netflix on both sides.

So you are always using their tech. Both encoder and decoders.

What you get is always within their control for that reason.

Either way this really has nothing to do with the argument that you can get UHD on 8MB.

Guys I’m going to have to ask if you can bring it back on topic. You welcome to create a Netflix quality thread and debate further there?

I’m trying to limit this to tips and tricks for the LIT box so guys don’t have to go through pages and pages of other stuff....

Manufacturer only got googletv certification in September. So soon it will be improved.

Agreed....

Erm ... , I take it that there is more than one version of NetFlix, and assume that they are not all equal.

Or their would not be reason to have different versions ...

Dstv now is working but dim. Changed tv to dynamic and its much more watchable

Screen saver also kicks in so changed that to 2 hours of inactivity.
