By the way, does anyone know whether the Netflix app in the store works properly now?

Or do you still have to sideload the older version? (a friend set mine up for me so I'm not sure which version is loaded and not in the mood to fiddle with it)

Last I checked, it was still ka-ka. Also, the one I tried sideloading didn't work all that well for me - seemed to be a normal Android (non-TV) version with all sorts of weird screen resolutions and the like.

My wife is about to go on maternity leave and it would have been cool to have working Netflix on this (bedroom TV)...

Apparently this one works.

download the following file: com.netflix.mediaclient_6.3.0_build_27748-27748_minAPI21(armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
from this location:
https://apkdot.com/apk/netflix-inc/netflix/netflix-6-3-0-build-27748-arm-android-5-0/

Doesnt work properly - loads the main screen, can access the menu items (which is why I thought it worked) but haven't actually been able to play anything.

To answer my own questions

Both apps in the OP work after a fashion ie you can load it and it will run

Impossible to navigate with the remote

Flaky as anything - crashes when you click the mouse button

Remote doesn't work properly (couldn't pause for instance)

Basically crap for Netflix

PS - wireless mouse works fine and is a damn sight easiest to use than the remote for navigation

Good News - found a Netflix apk that works properly with the remote

Does anyone have a problem with YouTube just playing the first couple of seconds then it just hangs?

Thanks will give it a try. The comments on that page also say the app gave a message that it will no longer be updated. Will install and confirm.

I'm also a bit lazy to fiddle with Kodi etc. hence these apps make my life much simpler. Any other suggestions welcome.
Yup saw the same thing, it's the next best thing compared to TTV
