Nope, or at least not in all cases. Having it formatted as internal storage was the reason why my upgrade and that of esmile, did not work. See earlier posts.
Thats normally how its meant to be. Depending on the size of the device storage, if an update is 2 gigs, and you have less than that, the update will fail. So ideally as Elf said below, maybe its best to reset the box before doing the upgrade, so that you have all the space necessary. Then re install the apps. In normal Android world, you are allowed to back up your apps and files, and then easily restore.
It seems that the developers of this didnt this through carefully.
