Hi all,

A quick update from our side.

  • A07 and A11 devices should have received the update. We enabled the update for the last batch of A11’s this morning.
  • A06 and B05 devices will receive the update next week, the update campaigns are scheduled to start on Monday.
  • We are seeing quite a few devices that don’t have sufficient space to download the update. Please ensure that the device has at least 700 Mb free in order for the update to download and apply.
  • SD cards cause problems. If the device downloads the update package to the SD card, the update will fail since the SD card can’t be read during the update process. The safest course of action would be to remove the SD card completely; it can be re-inserted after the update has been successful.
  • The update campaign has been very successful with a failure rate of below 1%. We managed to recover every device that exhibited problems during the update process, no devices lost.
  • Unfortunately we can’t supply anyone with the firmware image since the process includes a step that burns an electronic serial number to the device. Due to HDCP rules we are not allowed to distribute this image and tools to the public.
  • If you encounter any issue during the process, please send an email to support@nology.co.za outlining the issue encountered. Please also supply us with the serial number/MAC address that is printed on the label underneath the device.

Thank you for your help today, much appreciated.

Just want to say that this update is great. The LIT definitely feels more responsive and slick compared to the previous version. Thanks to the Nology team for the update, I love it!

@Nology
  1. The updating of LIT to Android TV 8, is it a once off project, or will there be subsequent updates over the next while?
  2. If Netflix, DSTV, ShowMax update their apps, will they update on the LITs from the store , or will it be an update from yourselves?

Hi,

1. We are not sure at this stage. We have the capability to future upgrades so if the need arises we will update the devices again.
2. The App updates run from the Play Store, we do not maintain the apps on the devices.

My A11 seems to be bricked - it did the first update, now no display.
Pulled the power a few times - the power light comes on , the Net light blinks every few seconds.
Unplugged USB stick, no other cards plugged in.
No display at all, even after power off reboot.
Give it about 5 - 10 mins in this "state". When mine did this the 2nd update was still busy. It's freaky to see it though :)

DDP 5.1 works on Netflix , no DDP 5.1 on the Prime apk not far back in this thread. The back button works fine so thats a relief.

Still can't get HD audio out on Kodi/MrMC apps though :(.

I do love the feature that you can safely remove your HDD at the top RHS where it shows a 1.

So you can confirm your receiver presumably picks up DDP 5.1? Dang mine only has DD :/

@psion Yes, it does pickup DDP 5.1 from Netflix. Still trying to get Kodi to work though.

/it worked perfectly on AndroidTV 7.1.2 so something changed wrt HD audio codecs .

Is the new update Android 8? Cause I am very close to ditching the Telkom LIT and getting a Mi Box. I only use it for Youtube, Showmax and Kodi.
Don't do it. I have both, and the Lit is definitely the better box imho. Much smoother playback in Kodi, whereas I get constant dropped frames on the Mi Box.

Nology team,

After the update I noticed my device complaining about space to the extent that I couldn't update the default apps. When checking space on the device, I found that one of the apps/services (I can't remember the name right now (mad cow disease)) had consumed 4.1Gb of space. Once I cleared the "app data" the device could update per normal. I'll have a look at my device this evening to try and find the app/service name that caused the hiccup.

Hi, we have received a few isolated reports of Chromecast consuming a large amount of space, we will investigate this. Please let me know if this was indeed the app causing havoc on your end?

Put an SD card in. Go to settings, storage, and use SD as internal storage. There will be 2 options, to convert as internal or removable. Use convert to internal.

That will convert the SD card into more usable storage, which will eliminate or should help with that issue of running out of space.

I do want to stress though, get a big SD card, and ensure that this is left in the box. The data will be stored on the card, and if you remove the card, you could end up having apps that are corrupted or not working properly. Converting the card to internal, is basically going to act as a hard drive would.

I've resolved the Chromecast issue so space wasn't an issue (for me). This is good advice for peeps using SD cards though.

I'm on B05 and just got the update. Installing... sitting in first LIT screen for a while... will leave it longer...
