Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

See first post for link sideload launcher work around for sideloaded apps

Found another alternative. Just add it to favourites in Kodi. Works like a charm!!

Heck you can even just change your menu to say Netflix and open the program from there too.

To add a sideloaded app to your "app and games" row on the home screen you can download a app called TV App Repo which allows you to create a shortcut.

Well to be honest scrolling through Netflix on this box is a bit awkward. Not to mention Netflix getting stuck in one row every now and then too.

Does anyone maybe know of a Telkom store in Pretoria who has stock? I went to the Telkom store in Menlyn Park (Pta East) without any luck and according to them they cannot tell me who has stock.

They further said they placed an order for more but cannot confirm when and if they will get.

I got one in Hatfield about 2 weeks ago, not sure if they still have.

Seems that you can possibly load Google Chrome from the PC version of the Play Store and select the LIT box from the drop down?
Anyone with the box currently confirm this at all ?

Maybe, other apps that aren't in the Android TV store work the same way?

Had a look now and yes it gives the lit box as an option to install chrome. Dstv now and netflix says incompatible.

I managed to buy one at Centurion Mall's Telkom today

How can I confirm what version of Android I have on the device? The blue sleeve around the box says Android 7.1.2 but if I go to Advanced Settings/Device/About is says version 6.01 with Android Security Patch Level of August 1, 2016

Software update says the current software version is the latest

I am missing something obvious?

Hi,

No Play Store?

Sadly, you need to take it back

Take it back as @Dolby said

I see there was a helpdesk number in the box, I'll phone them tomorrow and see what they say otherwise looks like I'm going to have to take it back. I just hope I don't get a replacement with the same issue

Thanks for the feedback Dolby and Sumen

The helpdesk is going to say the same thing ;)

There is no going from 6 to 7 OTA - that's physical.

Which store exactly?
Maybe PM the serial?

Just got my box. Can confirm DSTV 1.40.8 also dims the screen.

Also, help needed, is there a way to change streaming resolution? How do I know what bit rate it's streaming at?

Hi All.

May be need to post elsewhere but wanted to get your opinion on LIT Box vs connecting an old tower or laptop to my tv with a wireless mouse/keyboard?

Tell me to get lost if required

Youtube app. I cannot find the video quality setting anywhere. If i press the 3line button, nothing happens.

The bitrate is variable in android TV OS.. i also found out you cannot the quality... i see there multiple threads online detailing this issue and it has been raised with google.. but still not resolved... Seems google wants it this way to play max quality on android TV

Windows tower works ok in main tv-room, but android boxes really shine in the bedroom.
They normally are one-click-instant out of standby - vs windows boot up.
They take a fraction of the space.
They are noise-less - no fans or internal disks.

On windows you need to use Kodi or plex, which works great - but requires more mouse manipulation to use easily.
With android, Kodi, is a breeze with whatever remote comes with the box - including easier volume control.

Then you get the "other" apps, which is mostly android only - unless you are willing to play with Kodi add-ons.
Here I am talking about Mobdro and friends type apps.

Also DSTV and Netflix and Showmax on windows, works in the browser - which you need to either log in everytime - or use some password manager - or stay logged in, with the browser knowing you login.

New android boxes can easily do 4k display and .h265 decoding, and will have hdmi out - no need to upgrade that windows box - if it has no hdmi....

So - if you have a capable windows box - use it, until such time that you can easliy afford the R1100+ for LIT or other box - then get it.

Or not.
