I saw an interesting app on the Play Store : SURE Universal Smart TV Remote Control - uses infrared blaster and WiFi to control many different things . Smartphone needs infrared function obviously if not using WiFi . Controls air conditioners you name it.

Worth mentioning again for the newcomers here..the Cetusplay app on Play store is well worth a look at if you are interested in controlling your box from your phone.

So i finally managed to buy a lit box.

I have installed Kodi and want to use to play content from my USB - i cannot see the drive when adding source. I can see the drive in the file manager and browse the folders and find a file to play - but adding a source and updating my library does not work. Any suggestions how to resolve?

I found the solution to the above problem as per below:

Hi Guys, remote is broken, cant take back to telkom. Do not have HDMI CEC as option as its an old tv. What remote could you recommend for the tv box? A remote my wife and kids could use with ease.

I used the android tv app remote last night - worked really well. No need to worry about your remote battery going flat etc.

I have a fairly unique problem, hope guys can help - my TV is mounted on a wall, and i have no shevling table ect near or around the tv. So i want to put the Lit box on the top of the tv. Its an older flat screen so protrudes quite a bit from the wall and the box rests nicely on top.

Trouble is the Lit box adapter wire is too short to reach from the plug point. Any ideas where i can get an adaptor with a longer wire?

Make one? Cut and splice wires?

Murphys law, when I do cut and splice, something happens to the box, and Telkom refuse to repair because I messed around with the adapter. If I can find another adapter, with a longer wire first prize. Did some googling i havent found a similar adaptor for sale (and the ones i do find, have no idea how long the wire is)

Why not just use an extension cord?

Or attach the box to the bottom of the TV.

I have thought of the extension cord - its just messy with the plug point sitting on the top of the tv too. But it is an option of last resort.

Have also thought of mounting it at the bottom but there isnt anything on which i can attach the box. The TV bracket has arms reaching down - but nothing on which i can connect anything.

I know i am being a bit difficult, but just want a clean solution - which to me is another adapter with a longer wire. :(

separate discussion - I loaded chrome on the box so i could download an apk directly to the box, but damn its a mission to use, even with a wireless keyboard an mouse - super frustrating. The mouse pointer is overly large, and doesnt respond well to changing when moving over links and text input boxes. Is this just a symptom of the OS not built in mind with mouse operation?

Enable ADB on the box, then sideload the APK from a computer on the same network. Much easier then using apps on the box IMHO.

You really need to spend this weekend reading up on Android TV .

Regarding the browser, Puffin TV is available in the playstore, works great with a remote.

I think Firefox also an android TV browser.

I agree, i do need to read a lot more about Android TV. Share some links to useful articles, will help not only me but other people who have android boxes on this forum.

I will try the other browsers - however given i have a wireless keyboard and mouse too - I just wondered how come it performs so bad?
