The device has an ir receiver built in. Any reason why you want to use the extender?

I think it's more needed if you hide the device behind the tv without direct line of sight and still want to use ir remote.
 
If you have IR remote as some countries do, then you're right ... It's for hiding and extending.

But the Telkom box has the dongle which means the IR (and extender) are pointless as you don't need LOS anyhow
 
I want to control mine with my harmony... I don't have a hub yet though
 
I'm pretty sure you can do the Harmony? I actually didn't try mine, but I see the only potential issue is getting the right manufacturer. Perhaps something I should try though.

PS Pre owned hub on the forum I was thinking of getting. You can get it if you promise I'm first in line if you sell ;)

Guys... some great news.. with DSTV NOW... with latest version 1.40.8

I have a work around to the dimming issue.. i have tested for last 2 hours... working great.

Install an app called lux-lite.. free version will work.. this allow screen to play at 100% brightness or whatever you set it to

I havent tested in-depth but i set the brightness mode to day and then hold the ok button down on LINK to activate the profile..

Please test on your systems but mine is working great.. provide feedback

Just to add.. If you exit dstv now and go back into dstv now.. you may experience playback issues..

Hold the home button down and kill dstv now from task manager.. Or go to settings and force stop dstv now

Reason for this.. is the lux-lite uses draw over app and there is an issue there.. albeit a small 1
 
Greetings fellow lit box users, I got hold of one today and on connecting it I found that it has no play store of any kind, still I managed to sideload Netflix and Terrium, they seem to be working fine.
DSTV does not work as, first it says my device is rooted, then that it needs Google services to work, unfortunately Google app store will not run at all and there is no casting capabilities, is there something I can install to correct the casting?
So I am looking for advice and or opinions, should I just use it as is? Or is there going to be other problems I do not for see?

Check your android version. If it's 6, you need to take it back and wait for new stock with v7. There's a national recall of stock from telkom stores on, afaik.

Someone in the Droid TV thread said he has no dimming and Catch Up works on 1.40.12.

I bought my Android 6 LIT box on Friday, went back to the store on Saturday to complain. They couldn't confirm they had any with the correct version and told me they would get back to me on Monday by midday. Monday they didn't get back to me so I left a message but still got no response. Went round to the store after work where they told me there is an issue and they will contact me today. Let's see if they do.

At this point I am definitely not a happy customer
 
I eventually got my box yesterday and I'm rather disappointed. Quite a bit actually.

For starters, it's didn't want to play ball over wifi. It connects, stay connected for about 5 seconds then disconnects, immediately connects again, 5 seconds, disconnects, rinse, repeat.

With a cable it connects just fine.

YouTube - works fine, no problems.

Google Play Music - a mess at first, it didn't pick up I'm a subscriber, only my purchased albums where available for listening, playback was also a mess, didn't want to play from album sub menu, only from songs sub menu. This morning I restarted the device and it now realizes I'm a subscriber. Seems to be fine now... Even playback from album sub menu works.

Netflix - went the side loading HD file way, works fine but the navigation SUCKS! Absolutely sucks! Playback looks fine.

Apple Music - a complete mess, screen was rotated incorrectly at first, fixed that with Set Orientation app but I cannot navigate it. The screen doesn't want to scroll up and down. Managed to sign in and playback is fine but again navigation is a total mess. I also tried the Android TV navigation app from my iPhone, still no good.

Apart from these I didn't try anything else.

This thing has potential but yes, currently it's a mess.

Does anybody maybe have any solutions to my problems?
