Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Sorry this mention never gave a notification ...

It will be all of them - but as you can imagine, rolling an update of this size can't really be done at once due to bandwidth constraints. But a number of units have received the update and a number of them will be in the few weeks. Hopefully, going into December everything *should* be done

Thanks mate, warned the kids to expect an update, and not panic when it goes thru.

Hmm, Second update for me as well.
Wonder if its a 2 stage on purpose?

Did seem to get a boot loop on the first splash though, had to unplug to get it to boot after initial update.

So I've chatted to the engineer involved :

1. Telkom is running limited trials upgrading LIT boxes to Netflix firmware.

2. Given High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) rules it is quite an involved process, executed in three steps:

• Comms module upgrade which will auto-reboot your device – without much warning.
• Upgrade to firmware version 8.2.36 which is an interim firmware. Your device will start downloading in the background and only once ready to upgrade, you will see a prompt. Given that this step takes you from Android 7 to Android 8 (major change) the box requires to be factory reset – so backup any data you might want to hang onto. If your box is connected via Ethernet cable it will proceed automatically to the last step (if DHCP enabled), but if using Wi-Fi, you will have to connect it to your AP again before the final firmware will download. (don’t setup anything else at this stage as the box will be wiped again).
• Upgrade to final firmware version 8.2.38 – this is the Netflix certified firmware. Again it will download in the background and give you a prompt to upgrade firmware. Again it will factory reset (due to HDCP rules).

3. Your box will now be on 8.2.38 with a new nav layout and Netflix pre-loaded.

4. If your box started with the process but did not complete it, I suggest emailing the Nology Help Desk on [email protected] for assistance. Also note that enough space needs to be made available on internal storage for the firmware image to download – the question of “how much space is needed” is largely irrelevant since the process will factory reset the box anyway, so no use to keeping anything on there really.

Legendary post, thank you

I have ran into an issue with my litbox. Telkom has disabled my litbox remotely, and now it just shows red LEDs. Pressing the power button or remote does not turn it on, but i can see that the IR LED flickers when the remote is used. Any idea how to fix, or factory reset?

My LIT does not work anymore. Blue power LEDs go on but then I just get a black screen.

Mmmmm! Just had a thought, I wonder if the LIT box needs to be connected to the Telkom network to receive the update, You would presume so but not 100% sure

I recently relocated and awaiting Telkom install my line again, for the moment I'm using wireless internet proved by a local company (not sure who's network they on)

Many thanks. Limited trials now so no way to force the update?
But all boxes would be updated after the trial process I assume?

Edit: sort of 'forced' the update by restarting my box through the settings menu.
First I used the OTA agent which found no update, then I restarted the box by going into settings.
Soon as it came on again, it automatically displayed "shutting down" and the update started.

No, you don't - just access

Nope - because the update needs to pushed first, before you can download / install on your LIT. So a batch of serial numbers was chosen to push it to

Right now there has been a push on limited number of devices for various reasons (bandwidth and to see if anything breaks ;) etc) But it will roll out over the next weeks to everything, including A06

No updates on my 2 a06's.

Sounds like some are bricking from the update?

Guys who posted issues today. Was it after the update?

That kinda came out of nowhere, dont think I have ever seen my Lit update or even return a result when I am checking if there are updates.

I was wondering for a moment if the streamer I was watching had an update for his overlay software or something weird.

Hmm, yeah, splash staying up for a LONG time .... this was an update to like 8.1 or something so ... ok ...?
Did you manually unplug when the splash screen was taking a long time as @rodga did? Mine is hanging, not sure to wait it out or have to unplug?
