Hi Guys,

I've got a Telkom Mobile account setup at my girlfriends place on a HUAWEI E5331 router.

There are serious leakage issues or whatever you call it.

I can have one laptop open, freshly rebooted with no programs open, and I can log into the router and just see the data ticking over. Like 50mb every two minutes.

I'm going to enable MAC address filtering now in case somehow an ******* in the area managed to get through the WPA key.

Other than that, can you think of any ways in which this can happen?

I've tried to find an app / program (on Mac) that monitors which programs / resources are chewing data, but I can't.

Any advice would be seriously appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Raizon

If running MAC OS I don't know.

For Windows try "netstat -o" and make note of PID's. In Task Manager you can find process associated with PID.

Usually responsive are Windows Automatic Update, Antivirus software and increasing number of applications form Adobe and other leading brands.

Hi Raizon,

I'm having the same problem. I connected to the wi-fi device with my iPhone 5. My phone stayed connected, but not in use (locked). So I expected that it would still use some data for things like push notifications. A couple of hours later, I found that it had used > 500mb of data! I don't even use that much cellular data on my phone in a month!

As my data package was depleted by now, I topped it up the next morning with another 500mb and made sure to close all browser windows on my phone and also close all apps. Couple of hours later I went to check and all data was depleted again!

I made sure to change my passwords, but still either someone can still access it or there is a serious problem from Telkom's side. Have you managed to sort out your issue?

Regards
Pieter

As sajunky said, the prime suspect in such cases is very often Windows Update, and the problem is often that in each case it does not complete because the data bundle is depleted -- so on the next connection it starts all over again. To infinity and beyond....

How can it be a network problem if the router is showing data ticking over? The network can't force your router to download/upload. It has to be coming from a source on your side.
