Telkom Mobile LTE milestone

And doesn't work on any iPhones.. so yeah..

I will be honest I prefer MTN(Afrihost) on 3 G was downloading at 10 megs, using Telkom LTE at home only receiving 5 - 15 meg inconsistent & fluctuates... I don't see what the hype of LTE is if I am not experiencing those speed :)

What I do love about the B593s router you can create 4 AP(SSID names) & limit them to 1 device for example

Want to guess why MTN are so keen to partner up with Telkom Mobile?

Would be interesting to hear why. As they can't even sustain 3G in East London (80% of EL you lucky to stay on 3g for more than 10mins), that's MTN.. maybe they want to share LTE and 3G between them, best of both worlds, I guess.

But I'm sure Vodacom mentioned they will have ALL major cities covered by the end of 2nd quarter 2014...

Well Cell C desperately needs LTE to relieve the 3G congestion....

Anyways Telkom Mobile is FAR behind Vodacom and MTN. Vodacom and MTN started rolling out LTE in towns. I get very good LTE coverage with Vodacom and MTN around R/bay and EMpangeni and these are small towns. So yeah Telkom Mobile got some catching up to do.

I have telkom mobile LTE and I'm very happy with it, remember only telkom mobile runs its LTE on a dedicated spectrum.

That may be a thing of the past... Qualcomm has already designed a chipset capable of handling the entire 700-2799 MHz range. It will take time to filter through from the manufacturers as they obviously prefer users having to buy more than one handset due to frequency limitations.

Why?
Is Telkom's network different to the rest of the world that they need special phones?

Initially the global trend was to deploy LTE using FDD. Only recently (the last few years) have countries around the world begun to deploy LTE using TDD, due to this manufacturers were not producing devices capable of supporting TDD (Telkom deployed LTE using TDD due to it's available spectrum).

However, recently the need for LTE TDD capable devices has grown and you can see an increase in different devices coming onto the market, from CPE's and now Smart-Phones. Its just a matter of time.
