Telkom Mobile LTE Speedtest Results

Very happy with it at the moment at home. I notice when trying it out at work in a sparsely populated area, there are 3 towers in range, the map shows that 2 are LTE-A and the closest is LTE. I'm using an antenna 12m above the ground. Having changed bands a bunch and pointed the antenna around, reboots, and recorded the cell ids, I notice that the towers are working differently on the different bands despite similar signal strength. Results are quite different to home too.

Test using 450GB night-data SIM on Huawei B525 router with no special software - simply set to 4G / 3G auto.
No aerial / antenna either, so think it's quite impressive.

Might be able to squeeze more if you get it on 4G+. Set it to 2300MHz (4G Only) mode and see if it shows 4G+ when doing speedtests.

Thanks @ cavedog

I briefly tested that out months ago, and also "3G Only".
From what I recall, on "4G Only" my upload speeds increased & download decreased (I think it was something like 30 up and 10 down! - a reversal of sorts) ; on "3G Only" I've achieved up to around 26 Mbps down.

That's quite amazing - installed a patch to the software to change settings, using antenna/e or maybe closer to the tower / better positioned than I am ?
Should have mentioned, using an antenna.

Stats are:

RSRQ: -7dB
RSRP: -83dBm
RSSI: -57dBm
SINR: >=30dB

I don't know much about setting one up, though I've watched this clip before ; might look into it properly if I go the LTE route, more fully :

Telkom LTE-A , No antennas used. B525 Router
Ping: 18ms
Download: 160Mbps on speedtest, When downloading something on steam, i reached 186Mbps.
Upload: 10mbps on speedtest, not sure on steam.

You still in the pound seats.
7th July is the last time I saw anything above 20 Mbps.
I now get the same whether on 1800 or 2300 mhz :(

Here is the speedtest, will post Steam download later :)

I'm peaking at about 150Mbps probably due to peak time. My 200Mbps fibre line is down so feels like I'm still on fibre with these speeds :D

That's pretty good considering its LTE-A. Wish we had fibre though :*(

Rarely do mobile speed tests anymore with the luxury of fibre. Coincidentally, my fibre is a fraction of that speed at 20Mbps. :)

Just got my Telkom Fixed LTE from Afrihost with the Huawei B525 today and these are my speeds. The Huawei dashboard keeps switching between 4G and 4G+ and speed test sometimes gives a latency error. I was hoping to at least get 10Mbps down.

When I tried the sim in my phone (Oneplus 6) I was able to get 20Mbps down in the exact same spot as the modem. So I really don't know what goes on, did Afrihost do something to slow the speeds on this modem because they do fiddle with it before giving it out.

Did you change the frequency? Force it to 2300MHz to have it on 4G+.

No it said 4G+ when it was set to 4G only, if I select 2300Mhz it just says 4G and sometimes switches to 4G+ but makes no difference in speed.

If you force it to 2300MHz then it will only show 4G+ when you transfer data. When the connection idles it will just show 4G.

Did you try 1800MHz and did a speedtest? If yes your last resort will be to try Band 1 (2100MHz) with the band tool.
