Telkom Mobile LTE Speedtest Results

LOL..., while I have your attention a few questions.
The B525 router, I see there are 2 models:
B525s-23a: Bands 1/3/7/8/20/32/38
B525s-65a: Bands 1/3/4/5/7/8/20/19/26/28/32/38/40/41
1. Are they both in this country and we need to watch out for the 65a ?
2. If I got a 525s-65a, would my download speeds increase to a point that warrants the purchase of one of these routers ?

As far as I know the -23a is not sold locally. Telkom is the only provider that brings in the B525s-65a. It is available at stores like takealot but all the -65a version unless something has changed but I doubt.

I can't see what band you are on. If you are on band 40 and getting 89Mbps then the chances are very good that you might get more on LTE-A if you are on a "full" tower and not one of those mini towers. Those small mini green towers usually maxes out on 100Mbps even on 4G+

I have the B525 - it's connected to the main tower over the exchange - LTE-A usually tops out at about 90 - off peak maybe 110 max. So basically the b525 was a waste of money as speed increase was very limited.

Great to see the -23a is not available, but hang on, some provider will import them on the cheap.
My B315 is permanently on B40 - 2300 Mhz as the B3 - 1800 Mhz sucks as I have never seen it go above 25 Mbps although the uploads average 18 Mbps.
Here is a pic (taken from my driveway) of the Vodacom tower down the road, so you be the judge as to what type of tower it is.

This is the Telkom tower 2 km away and with binoculars on my roof I can see the top half. (taken from google earth)

And this is my antenna installation.

Thats very interesting.
Ok I'll just stick with my 315 for a while but if a real cheap 525 comes up I'll grab it, although I see there is a 525 available currently on Gumtree for R1450.

Yeah it depends sometimes the tower just don't have the kind of baclhaul to give decent speeds as I have discovered with my mini Telkom tower in Wierdapark. Tower maxes out on 100Mbps no matter what even on a B315 won B40.

Well yes the Green tower is a Telkom tower too you can see the Telkom antenna at the bottom of the tower obviously because they were late to the party.

Very interesting, that maybe answers your earlier question on howcome I was 'roaming' on 2300 Mhz.
Cell C / Vumatel moved into the area last July with fibre, so maybe this is in retaliation :)

- Yup agree - the green ones on bottom look like Huawei Antenna - the big rectangular ones

I recently bought a B525 and I don't know which antenna to buy for it. Can somebody suggest one and where to buy it from?

am I the only one who experiencing slow LTE speed on 2300 ?

for the past month, my 1800 is faster than 2300, I am using Huawei B315

2300 has slowed down a bit for me say 90 to 75 Mbps and 1800 still around 25 Mbps on my B315.

my speed on 2300, download 2Mbps, upload 2.5Mbps
my speed on 1800, download 9Mbps, upload 12Mbps

I am at Radiokop, Roodepoort, is any one experiencing the same ?

This may not help but what I have found is if you login and reboot your modem things improve a hell of a lot.

I am currently experiencing speeds of less than 1Mb/s on my Telkom LTE. My router shows full signal strength. Anybody know what is going on?

If you are looking for an antenna take a look at Otto Wireless Solutions in Randburg. I use the LTE-MD-11. Works great with Huawei LTE routers.

To everyone that gets full bars but slow speed: telkom seems to have updated their routers a few months ago to show full bars no matter what.

I have both the b618 and b315 and when I first recieved my b618 I got 2 to 4 bars on 2300mhz in the most ideal location im my house. Now both routers receive full bars no matter what I do or where I place the router.

My cell id is still on the same tower as when I first received my package and signal stats are no diffefent either. Only thing thats changed is my signal strength bar on the hom page NEVER changes from 5 bars.

I now use fibre for home internet so the LTE is unused. I figured that instead of cancelling perhaps I could find an alternate use for it. Is it possible to use the sim in a mobile phone? I have a dual sim device and using the uncapped data sim in that would be ideal, if it was possible.

YIP! I have gone on holiday with my uncapped sim in a mifi. But just keep in mind that because the uncapped sim is locked to 4G only, when you move around with your handet you will lose all signal/throughput when outside of 4G coverage. But it will work in a dual sim phone no problem
