Telkom Mobile: unstable latency

Good day,

I have recently got a Telkom Mobile sim card to use until they install my line (which was supposed to be done 1 month ago) and I find that the latency is rather good, until i play a game. When i play Black Ops 2 and DayZ my ping is at a stable 60-70ms but then every 30 seconds it shoots up to 250-300ms, making it unplayable.

Is there anything i can/should do to make my connection stable?

The download speed on steam and youtube is about 400KB/s and it is on HSDPA+ with full signal and is tethered through my Galaxy S4 mini.

Thanks

70ms ping is very good assuming 3G connection. I get below 50ms, also jumps to 250ms and at times comes to unacceptable 1-1.5s. Direct USB 3G modem - no tethering. You can't complain 300ms at times, it is pretty normal. My Vodacom connection (from the same tower) is 300ms minimum, average 400ms and also jumps to 1s.
You don't say of having LTE connection, it is reported much better (around 30ms).

I think what's happening is that they are detecting that what you're doing isn't bandwidth heavy so your priority drops. Try streaming's one radio or low quality YouTube while you play to see of it helps.
