Friend in Newlands uses Telkom for his ISP and also has a telkomsa.net email account. His ADSL is so erratic, more off then on, and when it is on, varies by the second from 700 kb/sec to 70 kb.sec, so he has a CellC modem via a router for backup

When he is connected via the CellC service, outgoing email from Windows Live Mail does not work and gives him a 554 error, or incorrect authentication. Telkom's help desk advise that their email servers, smtp.saix.net and adsl.telkomsa.net will only accept outgoing mail from a Telkom ISP account and he cannot use Telkom for his mail account if he connected via another ISP

Webmail via the net works with Cell C or Telkom

Is this correct, and is there any work-around to fix it? He has not had any ADSL since 19th Nov and despite Telkom telling him it is working, it is not

Thanks

Set ingoing and outgoing to telkom servers.

Select secure authentication.

Then email should work bothways even if he uses vodacom or MTN or even wifi at a friend's place.

For a more detailed description I would need to be using my PC. Currently on mobile...

Tried all that. Secure and insecure authentication. Same error msg crops up. Also installed new version of Windows Live Mail. I know WLM is a crap program, do you think I should maybe try Thunderbird instead?

The out going must be cellC if he is using CellC
In comeing does not change
