Telkom Speed upgrades

Did anyone else click 'Order New Service' on the telkom ADSL checker website, after it saying your current service is 10Mbps but only getting 4, hoping to get to a page that gives you 10? :p

Thanks for this info. Unfortunately I'm in the category that still leaves me confused. On the dark blue table for uncapped bundles there is are columns for 'Usage speed' and 'DSL speed'. Whats the difference? I have a do Uncapped Premium bundle where these two columns differ. What does that mean for me? I also note that the this do Uncapped Premium bundle will fall away after 1 Dec (see the ** next to it on the table). Will I thus move up one bundle or down one, or will it just not be available for new subscribers? As you can see I am still confused.

Telkom is one amaizing baby, the upgrade me to 10Mbps but my exchange has a max limit of 4Mbps, and since they've upgraded my account, my adsl is behaving odd, keeps dropping and connecting, talk about a Bugatti engine in a Toyota Tazz..

So ... some of us on the old 4 Mbps have had their service upgraded to the 10 Mbps, however the exchange only supports 4 Mbps and the actual line sync is 4 Mbps.

The question is, does Telkom charge us at the old 4 Mbps (new 10 Mbps), i.e. price unchanged or do they drop the charge to the new 4 Mbps (old 2 Mbps) because the limitation is at the exchange and they cannot provide the new 10 Mbps service?

Because, all they have done is put a label on it to say it will go faster, but doesn't actually do that. Much like putting the Bugatti badge on the Tazz and selling it as a Bugatti?

Anyone else wondering what is going to happen ... price wise if the new speeds don't materialise?

I have the exact same question :P We should get the reduction as the new 4mb price will be using the 2mb price afaik.

As I understood it you will be charged the 2Meg price i.e. your ADSL will become cheaper. I'm in the same boat, on a 4Meg and exchange only support up to 4Meg.

Legally Telkom will only be able to change us to a faster service if it does not cost us anything more. So if I pay for 2mbps and they upgrade me to 4mbps it will not cost anything more. But what happens if I pay for 4mbps and they upgrade me to 10mbps but my Exchange/DSLAM is not 10mbps enabled? Will they automatically move me to the new 4mbps pricing and service when they detect the issue or will I have to phone them and tell them?

The uncapped TI portion is a whole different problem on its own seeing as there was a separate package for 4mpbs and 10mbps. Legally they will not be able to change you from 4mbps to 10mbps uncapped without approval from us as there is an increased cost involved?

The cap or data is not the issue here. That is totally separate.

Dawie is right ... what happens if they move my profile to 10 Mbps (because I was on the old 4 Mbps) but the exchange is not enabled for 10 Mbps. Will they automatically reduce my cost to the new 4 Mbps profile (old 2 Mbps) or continue to charge me the same as the old 4 Mbps (new 10 Mbps) profile without physically increasing my line speed?

Surely they have to drop the price of the existing 4 Mbps customers if the exchange is not 10 Mbps enabled? The next question is: do we have to phone in or will it be automatic?

I was on 4MB, seems the exchange is not 10MB enabled. Was bumped up to 6MB/640k upload. Gave them call and they told me that they are still busy with the upgrades and that I should have 10mb around January ish.

I'll wait and see, if I don't have 10mb by end of January I'll downgrade to the 4MB option.

OKAY I've been having ADSL problems and when the techie came out he said my ADSL line dropping could possibly be the upgrades taking place are casuing the loss of sync

Any ideas?

Was wondering the same.. im on 2Mb uncapped.. so will line be upgraded to 4Mb and ISP remain on 2Mb? Or will entire package be downgraded to 2Mb ?

You'll be upgraded to 4MB uncapped, and pay R86 more.

Yeah.. but previous post also confirmed its not stricly legal to just increase price... I haven't even received any correspondence regarding this from Telkom...

Yeah the legal side of the transition is tricky. The old price and the new price are the same(if i remember correctly), the only difference is the new price doesn't include the bundle discount. Perhaps removing a discount is a legal loophole of some kind. I'm not sure.
