Telkom Speed upgrades

I Apologize if the following is a repeat question.
I am trying to understand this whole "free" upgrade process. The people, who until recently, were on the "old" 2Mbps package paid a total of R616 per month, correct? After the "free" upgrade, are you now going to pay R705 (new advertised price on do Telkom) or keep paying R616 per month? i.e. the adsl line rental stays the same (with upgraded speed) and the data portion is now higher in price.
I am trying to figure out what the situation is as I am one of the unlucky ones who got upgraded to the 10Mbps package from the 4Mbps package but my exchange only supports 4Mbps. I just phoned Telkom who explained to me that I now have to downgrade to the 2Mbps package so that I can be back on my 4Mbps package (amount of R705). If I did not phone them, I would not be aware that i need to downgrade to pay the same as my neighbour. No one contacted me regarding this.

They sent mails notifying everyone of the price.

I did not receive any correspondence from them. Not via email, text or phone call. The lady I spoke to this morning said that telkom only contacted their 1Mbps and 2Mbps clients regarding the increase as the 4Mbps clients would stay unaffected. The problem is that they forgot about the clients that got upgraded with unsupported exchanges.

Is there any way to find out when your exchange is going to be upgraded?

+1.
I'm not sure whether our exchange has been upgraded or whether I missed out as my router was off for 2 days (thanks to municipality working on infrastructure).

I dont trust Telkom's ADSL checker as it has given false results before.

:D:D WHOOHOO!!!!! :D:D

Thanks TelkomZA!! Sent TelkomZA a PM a few days ago and just saw I have a reply, my speeds have been bumped to 2Mbps!! (confirmed on my router)

Yeah baby!!

:wtf: ok so that didn't last long, I just did a speed test to see my new line speed and my results were as follows:

D/L: 0.21Mbps U/L: 0.41 Mbps

Did a second test and got:

D/L: 0.11Mbps U/L 0.43 Mbps

hmm , just received my Telkom invoice for 26th Nov to 26th Dec... and charged at the 10meg price, but I was not upgraded due to DSLAM. Thought the new prices are effective 1st December ?

Yes but the last day of your invoice month is 26 December..the prices would have long taken effect by then..

Checked ADSL checker this evening on behalf of my gf.

Found out that she's been upgraded to a 2mb line.

Phoned Telkom on behalf of her and asked for a profile reset.

2 minutes later, she was on a 2mb line. Well done to Telkom for these upgrades.

Surprised that a lot of people on a 1mb line have been upgraded so soon.

Ok I'm a bit dof.. What does that mean ? Telkom overcharging me or not ?

I dont think so, but u need to downgrade to the new 4mb and pay its new price instead, because ur exchange doesnt support 10mb anyway..

This is my stats after the upgrade:

Downstream Upstream
Current Rate(Kbps) 4095 511
Max Rate(Kbps) 25776 1331
Noise Margin(dB) 26.6 24.8
Attenuation(dB) 18 9.5
Output Power(dBm) 3 -2.5

If you were on the old 4 Mbps (your exchange is not 10 Mbps) ... and you call to downgrade to save the R 125 pm, they don't leave you on the 4 Mbps, they actually downgrade the line to 2 Mbps. Can you believe it ... and the call centre says that if I want 4 Mbps I have to pay the 10 Mbps price.

That's what happened to me as well! Stuck on 2Mbit now!!!

I even tried convincing TelkomZA rep on mybb to help with that problem hes seems to think the same as the consultants at Telkom.
if your exchange cant do 10mb you need to pay for a 10mb line to get 4mb

Utter BS...

This is nonsense .... we were paying a premium before, and for the same service levels others pay R 125 pm less. It's not our fault that the exchange has not been upgraded.

Can we unite and lodge a complaint?
