Telkom Speed upgrades

Been battling for an ADSL line since early February, all goes well I'll get it installed tomorrow. :D

Ordered a 1 Meg. line - wonder when it will be upgraded to 2 Meg. line.

Must agree that in many respects, Telkom have improved.

In Montagu some subscribers are still on 384k. You have to call the Worcester exchange and organise it. They say they do it on a "rotation" basis which seems to mean if your line is not attended to before they go home at 16h00, then nothing happens.

The LeDomaine guest house has been on/off for months now, not good for business

6 November is when proposed upgrades will start taking place. However owing to a planned network freeze over the December 2013/January 2014 period the upgrade process will be paused and will resume thereafter. So if you are not upgraded by then you will have to wait till the upgrades start again.

To be on the safe side request a line upgrade before end of November if yours has not been upgraded yet and pay the extra cost for the few days until 1 December when the new pricing kicks in.

And then they decide to only upgrade your line in Feb and you feel a bit silly for making such a preemptive move?

I remember last year most of us phoned 10210 to bump the speed, as we could not wait. It costed us nothing extra.

So what's stopping the people who want to stay on their current line speed but drop their monthly costs from doing so right away... nothing needs to be rolled out or upgraded for you to do that surely.

As far as I know they have not officially announced a price cut.
The official announcement is around speed increases.
I'm sure that once an official pricing decrease is announced then folks can jup on the offer.

Do you get what I'm saying though... What I'm planning on doing is when I phone them and they say my line can be upgraded, I want to drop to what was the lower package but keep my current speed, so I should save money but have the same speed. So effectively nothing changes on my line I'm just paying for what was a lower speed line. Only really valid for those on 1mb or 2mb at the moment I suppose.

I agree fully.
I would quite happily go for a price drop over a line speed increase.

The point is, they still want to collect the same amount of money each month, not less.

Not the case.
If you look at 2mb for example you can choose to not go for the speed increase and rather stick to the new 2mb pricing which is substantially lower.

Hi, I have just tried this and was advised that it will be done automatically when my turn comes around.

Not seen any lower pricing, if so then Telkom are really giving some value.

You did notice it only starts on 11 November, right? I'm sure the article posted by MyBroadband in September explains that quiet nicely. 6November is when the internet accounts are being upgraded, and on 11November lines will be upgraded (Not sure in what phase though, I assume 1 month for the 4Mbps guys, another month for 2mbps, and another month for the 1Mbps guys.
