Telkom Speed upgrades

What happens when you are on Telkom 2MB Uncapped account, does this also get upgraded to 4MB or just the line?

Afrihost support says they should be upgrading packages in January, so I upgraded to 4Mbps Uncapped but still not getting good speeds

ok.. http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/ showed my line as 2MB the whole week now it shows 4MB, checked my router and it still syncs at 2MB though, rebooted it now a few times and changed to ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ and still syncing as 2MB :(

EDIT: nvm i just readed through all the post, called telkom just now but they closed at 8PM sadly, will need to wait and call them tomorrow morning for a port reset.

Hello guys,

I have been reading through the thread's pages. But I still have a question, I'm currently on 10Mb package yet I only get a 6Mb speed, as Telkom limits it down to this speed. Will these upgrades push me up to full 10Mb or will I still stay 6Mb? My line stats shows that I can handle 20Mb.

tl;dr: Will I go from 6Mb -> 10Mb with these upgrades?

i called in time to get a port rest, but just missed my isp to upgrade my account :/

All you need to do is call Telkom and ask them to sync you higher.

I already did that, but they said my exchange is maxed at 6 Mb. This was around June. Would they have upped the maximum since then?

Question

If Telkom says - Maximum speed 4Megs, - Service speed 10 Megs .... Does this mean I am on a 10Mbps service but am only able to get 4Mbps?

2mb line will hopefully be on 4mbs soon. Is a port reset enough to do the upgrade or should one ask to ensure I am on the right "profile" as with the previous upgrade. Going to phone as soon as telkom support hours are open which is at 8 right?

My stats say my maximum speed in area is 1mb, although I have been on 2mb ever since I moved in. Now after the upgrade process I am on a 4mb service but max speed still shows 1mb. So I don't think the MAXIMUM AREA table is to be trusted. Hope it helps

Thanks .. Yeah, I was "told" by my ex ISP that my line was "unstable" at 4Mb but with the new ISP, I chose a 4Mb plan and no problems with line. My concern is that if I do ask Telkom to bump me up to 10 Mb, and pay the ISP for 10Mb, what will I actually get?

You can tell by looking at your line stats.

Phoned Telkom just now. They just reset my port and now I am syncing at 4mb . Yeah!

What a breeze... just phoned 10210, very friendly lady advised that i should be on 4meg from today, resynced my line and whalaaa!!

My router still shows ADSL_g.dmt... should it not be ADSL2+??

Only if you're going to the 10Mb profile will they put you on ADSL2+, or at least there's no reason to put you on 2+ if you're only going to be on 4Mb.
Also, remember that your DSLAM might only support ADSL_g.dmt and not necessarily 2+.
You can get up to about 8Mb on g.DMT
