Telkom Speed upgrades

Do we need to phone for port reset or will it be automatic?

It will be automatic. You could phone, and ask about it and if they feel like it they bump you up there and then (I phoned a few times back with the 1->2Mb upgrades until I got a nice consultant)

So, no need to reset the modem either? It will just happen?

Well it will happen eventually, just remember this is a whole process of all the lines. If you give them a call now, they attend to you on the spot, otherwise "automatically" might only happen in a week.

Only if you're going to the 10Mb profile will they put you on ADSL2+, or at least there's no reason to put you on 2+ if you're only going to be on 4Mb.
Also, remember that your DSLAM might only support ADSL_g.dmt and not necessarily 2+.
You can get up to about 8Mb on g.DMT

Thanks!!

No luck for me, phoned 10210, did the port reset, still 2MB :(

Need.....to........stay.......patient......

Patience is the word. Will check at the end of the week.

For reference, which division of services do you speak to via the 10210 number for a port reset? I assumed that it would be the Telkom 'ADSL technical support and fault logging' prompt, but when I tried that there were only options for fault logging and none for speaking to an actual tech.

Not a port reset. You need to ask to be moved to the new profile. A port reset won't upgrade the profile for you.

So I just called 10210 and asked for a port reset and apparently they got a email saying they are not allowed to do it anymore? (Something about too many people calling in and messing up their lines)

Good day, I have a quick question, my current service speed is 10Mbps but the Maximum speed available in my area is 4Mbps, and when I do a speed test, I always get around 3,56Mbps...how do I move to the 10Mbps, I am scared that i will be billed for something I am not using...

So what the ADSL checker shows as your current service speed isn't the profile you're on?

Sweet! I'll make that call as soon as I'm home today :)

Keep trying ;)

sigh, so i called telkom to-do a port reset because my line now shows it's 4MB on the checkadsl website but my router still syncs 2MB, the lady then told me a port reset won't help as the profile is still on 2MB and they can't put me on the 4MB profile because they where advise not to-do it manaully themself and need to wait for the technicians doing it by the exchange..

So guess i'll need to wait again.

ADSL Availability
Service Available
Maximum speed available in your area 4 Mbps
Your Current Service speed 4 Mbps

But my router says:
Modem
ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023b.d20e
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 2048 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 509 kbps
VPI 8
VCI 35

I have rebooted the router..
