Telkom Static IP configuration Help

Hi all

Please if someone has been through setting up Telkom ADSL line and StaticIP to help me with more info or IT company /guy who can do that physically at my office(pm for more info JHB).

I'm using ADSL router TP-LINK Archer50 and want to setup the VPN connection from windows PC.

Setting up the static IP portion isn't difficult. If you will only use the static IP on the Windows PC, remember that you need to ensure that the firewall is configured on the PC, as it will not benefit from the firewall on your router.

The user guide is available from within SMT (https://online.telkomsa.net/smt) where you must activate the static IP, or here. While Windows isn't officially supported, the guide does show how to set it up on Windows.

As far as I know, contracts are *only* applied if
- A device was provided that must be paid off
- Some specific below-standard pricing was negotiated

So no, no contract should be required to get static IP.

Different ball game. I have a very specific use for static IPS, which will be a benefit to my use case.

Thanks, one last question, will this work with my 10mbps uncapped home account? Will it contribute to my usage, or will it have its own usage parameters?

You will use the same username and password for the static IP session as for the DSL session, but traffic will only be counted once according to the rules of your DSL account.

u should have a L2TP router as gateway, IP use the gateway IP telkom give to u, if u use windows as VPN u must config this windows as gateway,

I see a config for MikroTik as well as Cisco is included

Does one have to apply for a fixed IP ?
Can one obtain more than one IP ?

IF one has to apply where is this done ?
How much does it cost ? ( Axxess is R39.00 I assume pm ? )

I followed your advice and posted in the Fibre section -- NO traction on that post ?
Trying to get technical detail is it seem like pulling teeth ....

Yrs.

Yes, Static IP5 (a static /29 subnet routed to a dynamic tunnel address, leaving you with 5 useable IPs besides those used by your router) is apparently now available.

(This can't be done with Axxess' NAT approach, and the product team for static IP really wanted Static IP 5).

Get a free NO-IP account?

For that use case, you could enable dynamic DNS on a Telkom Internet account, and not have to install/run/troubleshoot other software.

But there are a number of use cases where DNS won't work.
